Just because the Windows division supported Blu-ray ... doesn't mean the Xbox division isn't trying to do as much damage with all the FUD articles we have been seeing. Xbox division stands to lose/gain billions .. and that is tied directly to Blu-ray via the PS3. If they can paint Blu-ray as a failure they can paint the PS3 as a failure. Windows division has little interest one way or the other in terms of jobs at stake since Blu-ray was already baked in ages ago ... and generates little $$ to their bottom line .. the OS is still going to sell regardless. IOW there isn't much if any $$ upside to any MS division if Blu-ray succeeds .. but there is a huge $$ upside to the Xbox division (and therefore MS) if Blu-ray fails. |

I believe the title of the thread is a bit misleading. The article is not saying the Blu-ray technology is the worst. He simply states that $25 prices are too high for movies and the players are too slow. I am sure many of us agree about Fox titles and the first-generation players. The only word that should be replaced is "technology". He should replace it with "players". This is the exact quote:

Any tech writer whose focus is the computer area spent a lot of time being wined and dined by Microsoft for HD DVD, so even if they're not a red ant per say, they've absorbed a lot of FUD from longtime associates
http://www.google.com/search?q=chris...ient=firefox-a You can see the result of that in his writing He's also heavy on the anti-DRM crusade, which as we all know has made Blu-ray public enemy #1 |

The PC people understand the need to have the pc owners always ask for more power and more features. If not for the grumblings of the pc group about hd dvd's inability to manufacture working burners and media, why do you think Amir had to spend so much cycles making stuff up about recordable media is irrelevant? Usually the more relevant something is, the bigger the attempt for the spin industry to dismiss it. In the case of burning 25Gb and 50GB disks, the pc people see this as a great milestone in the next upgrade cycle, more opportunity to sell newer versions of windows with more media processing capability. A lot/most of those "writers", are paid a lot of money by certain companies to write negatively about BD. It's a very well planned strategy to start the FUD all over again because of the Holiday shopping.
BD is doing much better than some companies wish, they are simply very scared and try to do their best to slow down the progress. BD is already dominating in Japan and US is about to go digital in 2009. Remember, BD is the only HD format. Personally I stopped buying DVDs a long time ago, why buy SD when you can buy HD? You can't stop development and new innovations and advancements in technology. For the future I suggest that you take notes of the names of those writers (Rob Enderle is another good example) since they are 100% bought and nothing of what they write can be trusted. This idiot from Yahoo has no clue what he's talking about. Blu-Ray is not dog slow nor are the prices on disks that expensive. They have deals all over the place. This guy is a fool!

The Worst
Blu-ray - I'm happy to see that Blu-ray players have come down in price... but the media has not, and there's no way I'm paying $25 to watch Step Brothers. Plus the technology is still, bafflingly, dog-slow. http://tech.yahoo.com/blogs/null/111...ducts-of-2008/ |
