You can't, the PS3 cannot bitstream HD audio codecs and that is the only wat to get the receiver to read "TrueHD" or "DTS-MA".

Set your PS3 to LPCM. It will only read "multichannel" but you will still be getting HD audio.

It won't. The only way to get the TrueHD logo on your receiver to light up is if the receiver decodes the audio. The PS3 decodes it and sends it to your receiver as PCM and your receiver will probably say Multi Channel In. The PS3can't send the signal via bitstream.

I have a quick follow up question. I have an Onkyo 605 and it gives me the options of Direct/Multichannel. I was under the impression Direct was what I'd want to use. Should I be on Multichannel instead?

Use the Direct or Multichannel modes on your reciever.

I don't know about all brands, but on Onkyo the modes are as follows:

Direct - Straight from the source, no sound processing applied.
Multichannel - Accepts the PCM signal from PS3, but it applies tone control and equilizer processing before playback.

You could also use pro logic or THX sound modes but I discourage those as they apply unnecessary processing. Go with what sounds best!!!

On the Onkyos, I believe the Direct Mode also cancels the Audyssey settings, too. You can set it to PCM or, if you want to matrix it to 7.1 then choose PLIIx Movie.

The Audyssey settings are the same thing as your equilizer settings so it does cancel them. I generally just refer to both as the "equilizer" since some people(myself included) use a manual equilizer setting.

I have the 805 and also use a PS3, it should be set to Direct and when you press the "display" button on your remote, it will say "multichannel PCM" either 5 or 7.1 this tells you the source input essentially. The PS3 is doing the decoding. So, set the PS3 to LPCM output and your receiver to Direct and you will get all HD audio to include 5 or 7.1 and DTS HD MA & DTHD hope this helps
