PS3 Games: Better Picture Quality than Blu-ray Movies?

I recently came across a review of the Playstation 3 over at Amazon that said games on Playstation 3 look even better than Blu-ray movies due to "compression, transfer issues, focus errors, etc.". Aren't they just making generalizations here or are the games really of a better picture quality than films on Blu-ray?

Well that is a yes and no question for me. You see films has grain, no ifs ands or buts. The video quality of Blu-ray is so high that ppl can now see the film grain when the movies are played back. Since all games are created in a computer, no film no grain. Our idea of good picture is crystal clear, no noise/grain. Even though film looks better more details and ture to life colors ppl will still complain about the grain so that translates into poor picture quality. It would take a long time to create and render all of the details that we take for granted in real life. They are just getting hair and skin down good. Forget about grass, and the dirt the grass is on, or sand etc. And do not get me started on lighting.

Now, games again are rendered. So again no grain because it was never shot on film source. The issue I have with saying ppl the game looks better is that all of the colors and details are subjective. You do not really know what goal the game designers where going for. So what if the red is off you will never know, b/c you do not have a point of reference. If you watch a movie and the ppl look yellowish you know something is wrong.

To the end point this boils down to the CD vs Phono issues. Records sound better than CDs and MP3s, however there is a price to pay. Pops, hiss, and other sounds that occur from time to time. CDs are devoid of such noises so they "sound better" even though they do not have the range and depth of a LP. So Yes computer generated movies/games look cleaner than movies, but they do not look better.(lack detail that film catches or where not even redenderd)

very good post and do not forget that blu-ray is supose to bring film qaulity movies to your living room and grain is a part of film.

also games that are native 1080p and made to be shown at that resolution while film is not
