Default HD Satellite Question

I'm thinking of getting Direct TV or Dish Network and was wondering how the HD works. Do you need a box for each HDTV? My parents used to have Dish Network before HD and you could have multiple tvs tuned into the same box. I wouldn't think this would be possible with HD unless you had HD cables running to the HDTV but I could be wrong.

I would think you would need a box for each hdtv. I have three hd boxes. I know that you can output via the HDMI and the s-video at the same time...... so you may be able to output via the hdmi and the component at the same time as well. So you might be able to share one box between two tv's if you run component to the other room, but they would both have to watch the same channel.

Yeah, I knew that you wouldn't be able to watch different channels. The only way I would do this is if my roommate moved out, which is possible because he's looking for a new job and might relocate. I would prefer to only have one box (HD DVR) and be able to watch it on all the tvs in my house, including the HDTVs in my living room, bedroom, and basement. If I have to buy extra boxes I'd probably just stick with cable, which isn't bad but only has about 20 total HD channels.

Call the sat company and tell them how many hdtv's you have and see what they will offer you to get your business. You might be surprised. I went satellite four years ago and have never regretted it for a moment. Picture quality is better, audio quality is better, and channel selection (esp HD) is MUCH better.

Multi-room viewing via your local area network is coming soon to DirecTV.
