Default Choice for gift: Guitar Hero or RB

You guys always give me good responses, I'm looking for more, haha.

Guitar Hero World Tour or Rock Band 2, which would you get?

I've done some light reading on this and it's tough. From what I understand, you can use GH with the Rock Band instruments. More songs on RB, but more songs I know on GH. Drums better for RB, guitar better for GH. If you disagree with any of those statements, please tell me.

I'm really on the fence here, help

Thank you and we appreciate your support

I like Guitar Hero better. Find the guitar on rock band too easy and I like the GH songs better....

Rock Band 2, no question about it. I own every Guitar Hero except for World Tour and both Rock Band games. I like the songs on both about equally, but find the online experience and potential of Rock Band better. Friends who come over to play request only Rock Band 2. Finally, most game reviewers generally rate Rock Band above Guitar Hero, if that matters to you.

I like RB. I personally think it better than GH:WT. This is just my opinion. If you pick up RB2, you can rent RB1, buy the code for $5 and you double your songs almost instantly. Again, this is just my opinion.

i personally like GH:WT better. as long as you're getting the drums as well. i find rock bands instruments have a really cheap feel to them. i play guitar as a hobby and think GH feels a lot better. also, you get the cybals with the GH:WT drums. you have to pay extra for them w/ rockband.

besides the actual amount of songs on each playlist, is there a preference, one game over another, based on the actual songs?

I agree with you there on the build quality of the first Rock Band instruments but the RB2 ones are above and beyond that. They feel solid.

I was given RB2 as a gift this Christmas and I'd really like to know if this will work. If so, what's the process exactly, and where do I get the $5 code?

Yes, it works.

Rent/borrow a Rock Band 1 PS3 disc.

Put the RB1 disc into your PS3. Let it start, and update it to version 1.06.

Exit Rock Band 1.

Go to the PlayStation Store, search games by Title, go to R, go to Rock Band, and find the Rock Band Export Key for $4.99. Buy it and install it.

Go back to Rock Band 1.

From the game menu, select Options -> Export Songs. This will export 55 out of 58 songs (63 of 67 if you're in Europe) to your hard drive. The songs that will not export are Enter Sandman by Metallica, Paranoid by Black Sabbath, Run to the Hills by Iron Maiden, and (for EU) Monsoon by Tokio Hotel.

Rock Band 2 all the way!

It's been stated on various different gaming sites that bands prefer playing RB themselves, however GH has more money to throw at bands. Also, GH is opting to release separate stand-alone editions of exclusive titles (Aerosmith, Metallica...). Rock Band is about downloads (track packs, full albums..). The best part is with RB2 is that if you have RB1 you can import all those songs on RB2. if not you can buy a used copy at Gamestop, import it then return back to them and get your money back. An Internet connection is required though.

My personal preference is for RB2 because I think it has better playability and I prefer their drum kit. I am not that good at actual drums so it's fun to play with or without the cymbals. I think GH is really on it's way out.... Completely copied RB1 to make World Tour. There not much left for innovation at this point, but at least I know I can get new content every week from RB!

I have played both GHWT and I have RB2, If I were to spend ~180 I would go with RB2 overall. When I rented GHWT (earlier posting) I used both my RB and GH guitars along witht the RB mic. It was fun granted we did not use the drums, but finished the game relatively quickly. I found the graphics a little too cartoonish on GHWT and at least 4 of the songs tracks that you had to complete were in spanish. RB2 I just bought the new wireless drum set and then added on the cymbol set, I still use the original RB guitar and also the GH guitar when we play as a family. I honestly found both games to be fun, but RB2 just offers more bang for the buck. If you have little ones or family/friends who are not good at the game then the No Fail option is great so no one can fail out and not finish a song. Try going to BB or CC and try a demo of each one that is setup and see what you like....Its your $180.00.
