Default Toshiba XDE500 VS. Sony DVP-NS700H/B

Disclaimer: These are DVD players--sorry, guys!

While at Circuit City tonight I picked up a Sony DVP-NS700H/B to watch DVDs on to reduce the use of my Playstation 3. While the picture wasn't trash, it was less than desirable--yes, I am running HDMI cables.

While reading this forum (keeping my personal budget in mind) it seems the Toshiba XDE500 is the safest bet. Would you expect I would see better results with the Toshiba? Is this a good DVD player for the money ($100)?

I dunno... XDE is full of edge-enhancers and saturation-boosters. Sounds like it'd make a pretty unnatural image.
