I like the Sonys but I would try to get him to change it to the V3000. Since the 2500 is last years model.

Other than the format war bias, the Sony truthfully is a better TV. The Toshiba has a terrible contrast ratio and it just looks sloppy. Go with the Sony.

The V series has a 8 bit panel, you would get a much better display with the W series. Which is 10 bit.

10-bit Processing and 10-bit Display
While it's great to state that a TV is capable of creating billions of colors it's a whole lot better when you have a display that can actually display them. That's the logic behind Sony's 10-bit processor and 10-bit display. Sony follows 10-bit processing with a 10-bit panel, allowing 64 times the levels of color expression than an 8-bit panel. What that translates to is smoother transitions from color to color and subtle color changes faithfully reproduced.

I would buy a Sony Pioneer, Panasonic or Samsung. In my opinion those 4 brands are top of the line.

It has nothing to do with the format war but at the BB my b/f works Toshibas just sit there and collect dust, kinda like they're HD DVD players.

hmm I had never thought about that before

My sister bought a bravia lcd, and I am not too impressed with the pic. My older grand wega projection has a far superior picture. Have you considered the Panasonic Plasmas? TH-50PZ700U and TH-50PZ77U.

I can highly recommend the SONY Bravia.
I have the 46 inch and the PQ on it is superb!

The Bravia is consistently rated as one of the best LCD's on the market today.

In all honesty, I would look at more than one site to do your research for a big investment like a tv. When I get a tv, I expect them to last at least 10 years. I love my BD player and all, but my last three tvs have been two Toshiba's and a Sony. The Sony is a 27 inch Trinitron. The Toshiba's have been 50" RPJ tv's. My Sony quit working well after about five years into its life span. It is currently about 9 years old and the color goes completely green for about 10 seconds about every 10 minutes or so. It still works, but is demoted to the bedroom. My first 50" Toshiba stayed with our old house when we sold the house. The buyer wanted it and paid for it when the final sale was drawn up and the last I new it was still working great.
My second Toshiba is 50" and is about five or six years old. It is an HD tv and works very well. I expect it to last at least four to six more years before I will get a new one.
