Found both the Blue Ray and HD-DVD camps on a search one day and have been reading over them thoroughly. Just wanted to stop in and say hi and make a post.
I am not here to bash any format or company. I am just making a post. I origionally backed HD-DVD for the sheer fact that it was NOT a SONY product. I have had some really bad experiences with Sony and quite frankly, I want nothing to do with them. So, I chose the HD-DVD format. I also recently purchased Planet Earth - Pre-Ordered on HD-DVD. I only did this because I got a great deal on it that I could not pass up ($55.00 bux). However, I am no longer sure of things now. I have seen both formats at play and they both look great. I chose the HD-DVD format because it was not a Sony product and it's cost effectiveness in regards to being similar to standard DVD's. Blue Ray on the other hand has a much higher capacity than HD-DVD. We all know bigger is better. My heat would not let me beleive in a Sony product tho. As of now, I am split. 60% of me thinks the Sony product is better because of it's size. Again, more is better. 40% of me thinks HD-DVD is better because it's not a Sony product and its easier for duplication again since its based on SDVD's. Either way, I don't know anymore. I hope that by the end of the year, there is a "winner" in this "war" so I don't have to waste money. The only HD dvd I have purchased was planet earth. I guess I am not in any camp. I hate having to pick sides and I don't beleive people should be doing "group buys" just to make the numbers look better. Anyways, its good to read all the info and be able to make a choice. The problem is if your choice is the right one. For now I will stick with SDVD's and stay away from boxed sets until a "winner" is announced. Then again, there may be no winner and both formats may continue on until a NEW NEW format takes over. Who knows? Anyways, thanks for listening! ![]() |

2 - Are you saying that HD-DVD is better because it is easier to duplicate the software (ie movies)? |

Second: You can NEVER buy or use sony product but still enjoy Blu-ray. There are many ways to do it. Sony is just one of the supporters and a founder. |

Hello HD Supporter. I think there's already a winner and it's Blu-ray. And whenever we have friends over to watch a Blu-ray movie (PS3 and Pioneer Elite 50" 1080P monitor) there are a few more people identifying Blu-ray as a must have. It's destiny. And eventually you'll get tired of watching your standard definition DVDs and go with what (by then) will be recognized as the clear winner.
And thank you for being civil. Not all HD-DVD supporters are unfortunately. |

at least you don't have rose colored glasses on...
welcome.. even though if you own a HD-DVD player...you should hate BD because you pretty much chose a side and should stick with it... because I know I want HD-DVD to go away so there are no more questions.. |

NP on being civil. Any other way would just be a waste of time. Like I said, I am not here to argue over who is better and blah blah. I just like talking about stuff. Whichever one wins, wins. ![]() Last edited by DrinkMore; 04-23-2007 at 08:48 PM. |

Welcome DrinkMore... welcome to the "blu" side...
I agree with one of the posts above - you can be blu - even without buying a single Sony blu-ray product. I, alongwith almost every person on this forum, believe that content is key. With the exception of a few notable movie titles from Universal, you'll see that most uber-blockbusters are available in blu; some exclusive to blu. Stick around a couple of days reading posts here - and I'm sure we'd wipe all your "red" thoughts away ![]() Rup. |

Welcome, the one thing you will find about this forum is the tollerance and the willingness to enter into thoughtful discussions....
before telling you that you are blatently wrong ![]() I Keeed, I keeed! Seriously though.... I put this to all the regulars here... imagine if you will, starting a thread over in that OTHER forum with a title "Blu-Ray supporter - Kinda - Hi!"... how many micro seconds would it take for the thread to be locked, and the poster to be banned??? Not very freakin' many! We are a kinder, gentler, less fan-boi'ish group! After all, we have something the other camp never will, Tech Specs that support our assertions! ![]() |

Welcome, I am new here too, I know where I stand though.
I'm sure after a few days of being here, and maybe going out and testing a PS3 [not a kiosk, something like at a big electronic store] and some Blu-Rays, you'll be convinced of what we've known since the very start Blu-Ray is number one and everyone knows it! Once you've caught the Blu-Ray bug, there's no going back = ) |

Thanks all for the welcome. Its funny how you all say the "other" camp. Lol. I have read the same thing over there they say about you that you say about them. It's kinda funny.
Either way I don't care. Im just here to post. Besides, the HD-DVD camp does not have alot of active people over there. Weird. I am not going to buy a PS3 just to play movies tho. I would have no need for it other than that. I will wait until the BR prices come down some more and see how things progress before I make any further purchases. Again, I would hate to be stuck with a bogus format. |

Dude, that ship has sailed
![]() You mean you would hate to be stuck with ANOTHER bogus format ![]() edit: There are other things for which you can use the PS3.... not that I would EVER do it, but, you can go into usenet, download matroska files (.mkv) of 720p television shows - convert them to PS3 compatable avi files (using the x264 codec), and archive near HD television shows on disk. I have heard that on some of the transcodes, you can't tell the difference between the file, and an HD-DVR. Last edited by Iceman_II; 04-23-2007 at 09:08 PM. |

Hmm, you all think that Warner Online (the studio) would exchange my HD-DVD version of planet earth for the Blue Ray version if I just return it?
Lol. I knew I was going to go to the Blu side. Blue is my all time favorite color. Just irked me I could not get the nifty blue colored cases/movies. Ah.. well. |
