Just how good is Polar Express and Journey to the Center of Earth in 3D? Is watching them in 3D much better than watching in 2D?

There is a 3D effect certainly, but it's inconsistent. Sometimes, instead, there are colorful halos around everything and the 3D effect just isn't very strong. Other scenes are fairly clear. However, in order to achieve ANY 3D effect, the color schemes are WAY off. Also, it always feels as if you're looking through dirty glasses and your eyes have to strain to keep in focus. I developed a headache about 20 minutes into the movie and it lasted throughout the next day.
As a novelty, the 3D effect worked okay. I'm glad to have viewed Journey with the 3D effect, but I won't re-view it in that mode again. The 2D version is below average in terms of detail, clarity, depth, shadow detail, and color accuracy. Here are some screenshots. If you have the red/blue glasses, you can put them on to see the 3D effect right here on your monitor. Spoiler Warning: The following screenshots may display spoiler content. Thanks for ricwhite and others for sharing your pictures and experience. I don't have 3D glasses but I got your point. I think I will keep my money. I will pass the movies.

I enjoyed both movies, but the 3D aspect of it took away from the enjoyment imo, I watched both in 2D & 3D and enjoyed them alot more in 2D, except for Journey to the Center of the Earth lacking HD audio, it was good, The Polar Express is just great, especially the 'Hot Chocolate' scene

Excellent screenshots ricwhite. I have learned that to get REALLY GOOD 3-D viewing, one must watch in a very dark room, adjust the brightness very high and take down the contrast a tad. I have watched Journey 3-D at least SIX times; Polar 3-D about 3 times. I like the 3-D effect on my 1080p 52-inch Sharp Aquos. I even made a USER preset for the brightness/contrast adjustments just for 3-D viewing. I read hat Disney's BOLT is coming out soon. I am hoping the 3-D version is included on the BD. I also hope Beowulf will release on BD in 3-D at some point as well. |

Bolt has about as much chance of having the 3D version as Meet the Robinsons. You'll have to wait for that one. |

http://www.amazon.com/Journey-Center...2144981&sr=8-4 There was some ok effects watching the 3D versions but after a while my eyes would hurt. If you plan on buying the Polar express on Blu-Ray I would Pick up the 3-D version since it has better audio. The Polar Express 2-D\3-D version Blu-Ray has a Dolby TrueHD 5.1 Surround track while the original Non 3-D version Blu-Ray only has Dolby Digital 5.1 Surround.
