The extra widescreen HDTV's will offer increased resoultion and brightness for ultra widescreen movies. A 16:9 1080P will produce 1920 X 1080 for 16:9 movies. When letterboxing occurs on 16:9 TV's resoultion and brignesss is lost in the areas where the black bars are. Still I much perfer the original ratio even though resoultion and brigtness is lost.
People that own certain 1080P front projectors with special anamorphic lenses already have ultra widescreen viewing at 1920 X 1080 with full brightness. Hopefully the ultra widescreen displays will catch on. 16:9 material and 4:3 material will have black bars on the sides for Ultra widescreen sets. |

Not me I'll stick to my 16:9 TV. It's bad enough having black bars on the sides right now for 4:3 TV. I can't imagine what it would be like with a 2.35:1 TV.
The only way I would get a 2.35:1 TV would be to watch movies only in a dedicated theater room, of course if I had one of those I would use a projector and 100+" screen. ![]() |

Man, I wish we came up with just one aspect ratio 100 years ago and stick with it.
