Default HDTV'S life

When companies say their tv will last 7 to 10 year's, is that with all setting's like brightness and constrast turn all the way up?. or is that regardless of what ever you have it on, i try to keep all my setting's low as possible, especially constrast. i keep it around 75.

I was always under the impression that the "life span" that they talk about is the so-called Half Life, at which point your tv starts to get dimmer and dimmer after that. I could be wrong though.

Different technologies age in different ways: LCD vs. Plasma vs. CRT
In general, usage does play a part in aging, especially with plasmas, although newer plasmas are better. LCDs tend to be the most independent of what they are asked to display because their back lighting is always on.
But like Bango said, typically HDTV sets don't just reach their lifespan and go poof!
