My mind is mush since I'm working on my Business Class assignment. Can you explain that strip?

LOL at the first comic strip. We were talking about start up companies and supply and demand and how usually small start up companies go belly up within a year or so.

LOL....seriously?

Okay, you do understand that the circumference of a circle is pi times the diameter of the circle, right? So, assume the record is 12" in diameter. The circumference (or distance around the outer edge) is approximately 37.7". Now, let's assume the label is a 3" circle, which would have a 9.4" circumference.

Put a dot on the outer edge of the record and another on the outer edge of the label, both dots in line with the hole in the center. When the record makes one revolution, both dots start and stop at the same time and are in the same position (say, at 12 o'clock). The dot on the outer edge traveled 37.7" in that one revolution, but the dot on the edge of the label only traveled 9.4" (or about 1/4 the speed of the dot on the outer edge).

It's the same principal that allows water skiers to travel much faster than the boat when they are whipped to the side to make distance jumps off ski ramps.

I'll give it a shot. So, as you know, the circumference of a circle is 2Πr (Π is pi). Assuming the center of the disc is r=0, you can assert that any point of distance x from the center of the record is r=x. Now, let's take two arbitrary points: x and x+3 (as the second point will be slightly further from the center than the first. 3 is arbitrarily chosen but will make the example clearer). We also know that the disc will have to cover the length of its circumference for every revolution it makes. So, plugging x and x+3 into the circumference formula, we get 2Πx for the first point and 2Πx+6Π, so the rate at which the outer point travels a full revolution increases faster.

I actually had this post half typed out over an hour ago, and then my colleague had SF4, so I went to go play it.
