Default why cartoon network, why?

it seems cartoon network is following in the footsteps of mtv and vh1 by forsaking the type of programming that started it for programming the has nothing to do with the channels premise.

When they started showing Goosebumps or the Spider-man and Garfield movies i went along with it because there was still some sort of connection to the cartoon world but the new programming they have started...Slamball (basketball with trampolines), Brainrush ( a quiz show on a rollercoaster), Survive This (survivor with kids), The Othersiders and Destroy Build Destroy (like Junkyard wars and hosted by Andrew WK of all people)...these shows are not only poor quality but have nothing to do with cartoons, comic books, childrens books or anything fantasy related. I realize that being 32 years old that I am not the target demographic for these programs but i just hate to see the network going down this path.

So what was the decision making process here? Anybody else think this will end poorly?

Yes, I agree 100%. A bad move on many levels. It is a shame! I pray that Boomerang that plays the oldies but goodies does not travel down the same hopeless path!

Batman-The Brave & the Bold is the only thing I watch on Cartoon Network. I prefer Boomerang.

Yup, that would be a good idea.

I would bring back Beavis&Butthead, Ren&Stimpy etc...

Agreed.

But they'll probably start showing reruns of reality tv and wrestling.

I miss the days when CN actually aired a fair amount of anime, you ask me that's what they're lacking these days.

They're jealous of Disney Channel. Who's jealous of Nick. Who's jealous of Cartoon Network.

I agree that it's a huge mistake to not show cartoons (or at least cartoon related programming) on the Cartoon Network. As the OP said, this is the very reason MTV and VH1 suck so bad today. I've even been getting somewhat disappointed with Boomerang because some of the newer generation stuff that sucks is now old enough to be shown there.

Is it not because of the Anime Television or Channel? I know that's what happen here. YTV use to have anime but since they got that new anime channel in Toronto YTV doesn't show much of it. I think they got Pokemon, Naruto & Bleach left.

Teletoon is the reason why we will never have Cartoon Network in Canada. The CRTC will block it, Teletoon as to include a certain amount of Canadian content in their programming.

Yeah really. Back in the 90's early 00's I always loved there old line up then they started slowly wrecking it with that ed, ed, and eddie kind of animation. Now I only keep it on the guide for family guy every now and then.

God it was such a beast channel, anyone remember super chunk lol.

oh and what's worse is they are adding those crappy shows to boomerang. How they screwed up a good thing I'll never know.

But so did the rest of them.

Lol remember toonami? Johnny quest, dbz (where I first started watching it), centurions, gw, SPace ghost (not that lame talk show) and a few others.

After Cow and Chicken, Johnny Bravo, Two Stupid Dogs and Courage, The Cowardly Dog, nothing else was really worth watching on CN so I just lost interest in that channel.

Hey now! Space Ghost Coast to Coast was great! Loved that show.

But yeah, it saddens me to see Cartoon Network journey down the same road as MTV, VH1, and the numerous other channels that found themselves run by executives who hated that their channels were genre-specific. They gotta be just as generic as every other channel on the dial! Sigh. This is almost as bad as SyFy. Though, to be honest, is a name-change eliminating the Cartoon Network name really that far away? I doubt it.

I was wondering the same a few weeks ago when I saw my 6 year old kid watching Jurassic Park 3 on Cartoon Network!! Definitely the channel lost its "essence", although to be honest, most of the cartoons they air today are completely crap. Even my kid prefers other options such as Jetix (now Disney XD) and Nickelodeon.

Sadly, I think Boomerang is also losing its grip. Was created for the good old days cartoons a suddenly you see aired shows like Teen Titans, Justice League and The Batman, not that they aren't good shows, but I think they could easily be still aired on the Cartoon Network.
