Default Plasma at high altitudes... anybody?

I live in Denver and I am looking at plasmas and lcds. I have been looking at Pioneer, Panasonic, and Sony brands. People that I have spoken with have said there is a hum or a noise that come from being a mile high. Has anyone experienced this? How noticeable? Should I go LCD instead? I currently have a projector and dlp set.

The only problems i've heard of (I don't remember the exact altitude) is the gas in a plasma expanding, which could potentially ruin the screen. Now, I was at a conference call a couple of years ago when I heard this so I don't know if it still holds any water today.

not sure how true this is, but someone told me a story recently about when they were upgrading some interior features to the Air Force One, they used some plasma's that ultimately exploded when they were "x" amount of feet in the sky. Could very well be true.

I doubt it, they have to pressurize the plane so your sinuses don't start having all kinds of problems so it is highly unlikely the that minor pressure change caused any plasmas to explode.

@ the OP, there has to be a walmart, Best Buy, Target etc that has a plasma on display in Denver. If it looks fine on display there then the chances are pretty good that it will be fine in your house as well.

Not many people do, but Runco had a line of plasma's specifically for higher elevations.

It was for 9,000ft plus elevations. I'm not sure if they still offer them, although they still have offer a full line of plasma's up to 103".
