Hi all just wondering if anyone can help me out!!! My playstation 3 is leaving marks around every disc i put in the system...I think its dust but not really sure. I have called playstation service number and talked to some people about it..Now i have been told either try one of those cleaning dvd's put it in the system and see what happens.....OR try compressed gas air thing..The one i have is called Dust-off professional..the original compressed gas duster...so I want to know if anyone knows what i should try??? The dvd cleaners that i have seen at stores don't say anything about blu-ray or PS3 so i'm kind of worried about trying that...and of course Compressed gas thing scares me too...I just don't feel like taking my whole system into the Sony store and having them send it away lol. Thanks alot for your help!!

Wow, sorry to hear that. But I've had my PS3 for years and never had that happen. I'd think if it was dust, we'd have had this problem all over the place.
I know that's not that helpful, I'm just saying I'd be surprised if it was something like dust. |

never been dropped...all disc's work fine..started about 2 weeks ago. i have had the system since it came out..well i have alot of animals in my house 2 dogs 6cats and one farret..i do use a vacume around the vents..have once a week for a long time...The one hockey game i have 2K9 freezes in season mode...but the last 3 2kgames has done that lol.. I m thinking it might be dust and pet hair maybe ...or my system could be dieing lol.......should i try the compressed gas dust off? or dvd disk cleaner?

Compressed air is good for blowing into the vents on the PS3, but I don't think you can reach the interior of the Blu-ray drive bay without taking the unit apart.
I think you should take your PS3 apart and clean it if you are a tech savvy. Otherwise have a friend who is do it. After that, if you think it could happen again, perhaps place a cloth or something over the disc slot to help keep contaminants out. I believe that slot is the only way for contaminants to get in. The ventilation paths inside the PS3 do not run into the Blu-ray drive bay. |

could be that a disc with some sort of muck or grease or some sort of crap made its way into the PS3 and thus leaving the residue on your loading tray
![]() that's happened before with my dad's old Coby DVD player, it somehow used to discharge bearing grease on the discs... and that ruined (not really ruined, but definately didn't help) when i would put those same discs in another disc player... clean your discs and find a lens cleaner for now and maybe the crap that is coming out will eventually run out... otherwise it could the drive in the PS3 itself. just my 2 cents. i hope they help somewhat. good luck. |
