Exclamation Blu-ray website lacks...

is it me, or should they update the official Blu-ray website and integrate some Flash animation, video and interactivity! The site looks immature and lacks any "oomph" compared to the rivals website. You would think the marketers were on their toes about it... sheesh...

(sorry, i'm a web designer and pretty picky about these types of things)

I am not sure the site needs those extra bells and whistles. I like the clean look. I hate going to a web site and seeing that I don't have the latest version of xyz and to view the site properly I will have to spend time downloading which is a big turn off.

I would comment that I wish the Forum posts were higher up on the main page. I did not realize this place had a forum and I have visited here for a year and a half. The 'new releases' and 'coming soon' should be condensed/moved lower on the page as they don't change much and again you don't get to see the posts without refreshing the screen and then scrolling.

Does the PS3 browser support Flash and other plug-in type stuff like that? Maybe they keep is basic because of that.

You know, I've thought the same thing but never really had a chance to mention it anywhere else. I'm a Blu-ray supporter all the way, but HD-DVD's website is better designed without being too busy or complicated. I respect Matthew.Rounds' point that keeping it simple can be nice. I still say that someone visiting both websites will probably be more impressed with the HD-DUD official site than with Blu-ray's. I look at haiku_aubade's comment as constructive criticism.

This isn't the official Blu-ray site, though. This is: http://www.blu-raydisc.com/

Ranch is good and it is good on everything. Not like Heinz Ketchup is, but it's a close 2nd or 3rd.

My mind automatically blocks out things that have motion on websites. I've trained myself to ignore it.

I have to say that there are far too many unnecessarily 'flashy' websites these days, even for more mundane things.

There's nothing more frustrating than a website which has to load daft animations and moving letters/banners/dropin boxes etc etc when all one requires is the company phone number.

Also I think the worst thing to have is an absurdly OTT front page which after having to wait for the flashmedia gubbins to get out of the way simply says 'enter site'. AAAAARRRRRRGH!

Clean, straightforward and tidy websites are quite refreshing.

I'd be just happy if they had the firmware updates for APPLE on their site.

Hmmm. Call me old fashioned, but my idea of good web design is something that is easy to use for the visitor. The page(s) should load quickly and it should be clear how to use the site and get to the imformation you want.

For good web design, have a look at eBay, the BBC, Amazon, Google - some of the biggest sites on the web. Don't see much "oomph". Wonder why?

Flash, if used atall, should be used in moderation. Using it for the whole site is a sure fire way of reducing site traffic.

Sadly many of the film companies employ web 'designers' who have just come out of college and think that every website should be a cartoon that takes several days to load, is user unfriendly and features some incredibly annoying guitar muzak background. Still, it keeps them off the streets so we should all be thankful for that much.

Just don't put your blu-rays in your player if they have ranch dressing on them. It voids your warranty.

I think THIS site should be the official site. I never go to the official site!
As I'm sure is true for most of us on here.

Amazing how things get off topic...i.e. ranch dressing lol!!!!

I also agree, which I think helps prove the point of this thread.

If this site was integrated with the official site, it sure would make things a lot easier for new viewers. I mean, when you do a search for Blu-ray, this site comes up before the official one . No wonder there's so much confusion! Plus, this site is better than bluraydisc.com in so many ways.
