Default Online Player Communication During PS3 gameplay?

Hello,

I have recently started playing Resistance online and it is awesome. I had to force myself to go to bed last night after too many hours in front of the TV. A few questions though.

How do you communicate with teammates? I know you can use a bluetooth headset, but does it work in game. Is it anything like the XBOX 360 where you can hear a lot of background noise? Are there any recommendations for head sets. I hate cell phones so mine does not support bluetooth meaning I don't even know where to begin to look for one. I have read there are some headsets that interfere with the controller so I would like to avoid this.

BTW my PS3 screen name is matthewrounds if anyone wants to add me as a friend or get me in a game sometime on Resistance. I am slowly moving up the XP points!

Thanks,

Matthew Rounds

Resistance does support the Headset. In order for other players to hear you when you speak you need to press and hold L3 or R3. I cannot remember which one right now. It can be a little annoying at first but i got used to it quick. I do not hear a lot of Back ground noise from other players when i play.

You have to push in the L3 button to talk to people unless your in a party or squad full of people.

So far no one has recommended any bluetooth headsets yet. It's kinda sad that Sony hasn't released any official headset for PS3 either. I think I'll just wait a while before they have more games that feature voice chat before I consider getting one.

I'm waiting for the new Eye camera with it's microphone array and noise cancellation features.

Yes it supposedly will filter out the game sounds coming from your speakers so it's your voice only that is picked up.

If that's not good enough then I'll get one...but not HAVING to wear a headset at all would be the sweetest of all and I'd rather put the money towards the camera first.

I also think it sad they haven't made a keyboard either. The Logitech and Gameshart ones are crap.

Also, I have a motorola h700 that I use with my ps3. It works fine. You can get one off of ebay for less than $25 new. I ordered a second one, cause i was using the one I use for my phone.

I have the Motorola h500 and it works fine for me. I've seen it for about $25 in stores. I'm sure any bluetooth will work fine. Are you guys sure you have to press the L3 button to talk/hear? I have always been able to talk/hear people while playing without pressing L3 or any other buttons.

Sony do seem to be missing opportunities to make money back on peripheral sales. I'd buy a bluetooth keyboard and headset designed for PS3.

I am using a Jabra headset. It is the lowest end model for this brand and is avaialable at Best Buy for about 35 dollars. I have had no problems with it so far. it is a little uncomfortable but you get what you pay for.

You only need to hold down the button (L3? R3? can't remember) when you play in the free-for-all deathmatch modes. Otherwise the mic's work automatically. If you're not hearing anyone speak or respond to you, the most common problem, I found anyways, is that the people you are playing with are not equipped with headsets.

I've played SOCOM for years on the PS2 (every iteration of the game), and when the PS3 launched, many of my clan-mates picked up a PS3 and Resistance, so at the very least when we went to play, we had our Logitech USB headsets from SOCOM. We rarely ever had problems with the headsets not working (except for me when I'm using the BT Headset and the battery dies). There's no discernible background noise, but one of the more annoying things is if someone has their mic volume turned up too high, and all you hear is heavy breathing.

I think they want to allow 3rd parties the chance to establish a foothold for certain peripherals .. otherwise they will never get an ecosystem going..camera is an obvious exception because of the value-add and the blu-ray remote they just had to do probably because no one else was ready.

Sony's upcoming HD Eyetoy looks pretty interesting. Especially when I watched that really old trailer for the 'Eyedentity' game. I have no idea if that game's been cancelled or not, but it still seemed pretty cool a few years ago.

I tested with my SOCOM headset and my brother said he could hear me fine through the xmb chat.. but he was using a regular karaoke mic (apparently they work also). He said he could hear me fine but all I heard from him were a bunch of stuttering and static noises. That's what happens when he uses a karaoke mic I guess. So I cant say it was a pleasant experience. I also didn't have any webcam that was compatible. As for testing it out on Resistance.. I never tried it yet. Then again... I have more fun playing CoD3 online for some reason even though there's no voice chat in it. You'd think they would do a patch update for that but oh well...too late for that.

well i guess it depends on what you use as i had the cheapest blue tooth headset ever just to test it out on rfom. It was really bad so i dropped some cash on a decent one and now people talking sounds good apart from when they do not have a good set or the mic turned way up and i can hear them heavy breathing and kids in the background + family dog.

I've used the XMB voice chat with my clan-mates as well. Actually, we had a blast with it. I hosted a video chat with 4 of my clan-mates, and according to the manual it's possible to do up to 6 simultaneously. I was the only one equipped with a web-cam (actually my PS2 eyetoy). The voice/video chat was really clear (again we were all using our Logitech Headsets) and aside from a slight video frame rate drop, my clan-mates reported that the video feed I was sending them worked really well too.
