Default PS3 Settings for Blu-ray?

Hello again,

Now that I've resolved my tv callibrations for my LN46A530 Samsung , I was wondering if I can get some input on my PS3 settings. I've done some searches but only found partial settings...(e.g. use YPb/cBPr/CR, RGB set to limited, Superwhite enabled), which were helpful but haven't seen suggestions for other settings on the Video settings.

What do people normally set the following at for best Blu-ray movie viewing?
BD/DVD conversion - audio or video?
DVD wide display - letterbox or pan and scan?
BD/DVD upscaler
BD 1080p 24 Hz - auto?
BD/DVD audio output format - linear PCM?
BD/DVD audio - bitstream??

ps. I'm directly hooked up to my TV via HDMI cable and I've got my Video Output settings set to 1080p

pps. one more question - on my tv, when I turn on my PS3 it'll say 1080i and when I put in a blu-ray it says 1080 (no "i" but also no "p" either) - shoud there be a "p" after the 1080??

Thanks in advance!

how do you have the audio set up, is the audio optical out or HDMI out?

Default Using Optical but...

I'm running optical into my home theatre system (Samsung HT TWZ312 with no HDMI outlet ). and using component to hook up the home theatre system to the tv. But had some problems when I played around with the PS3 audio settings (when I changed the "linear"setting I wasn't getting any sound) so I kinda stayed away from tinkering with it and left it at "linear" setting b/c I can still get good sound from my home theatre system (I recall reading one member talking about a similar problem but can't find the thread on how he resolved it...)

if you have a receiver than can decode the sounds then set the ps3 to bit stream since you are using optical with it. optical can only carry 2 channel. and i have the same model tv but 40". and no, it shouldn't say p. but even without a movie inside, it only says 1080..

If your TV is 24p compatible; set to on, if not use auto

Wouldn't know, need more info. is your TV 1080p, 1080i, or 720p native?

This is incorrect. Optical can carry 5.1 such as Dolby Digital and DTS, but it can't carry lossless audio such as Dolby TrueHD, DTS HD MA, or uncompressed LPCM. I'm using an optical cable from my Xbox 360 to my receiver (pre-HDMI Xbox 360), and I always get true 5.1 Dolby Digital with it.

Optical can carry 2 channel lossless, which is what I think he was trying to say. So like... you're both wrong.

There's no need for this. The PS3 will output blu-rays at 1080p, even if all the resolutions are checked.
