Default Need some help picking a new player.

Right now I have been using my PS3 as my main blu-ray player but I am going to be redoing my basement and I wanted to pick up a stand alone player. I was looking at the new Samsung BD-1200 or the Sony BDP-S1. I like both players but I want to get the most up-to-date one with the best image and quality. I would also like it to last me even with the new updates/standards in the fall for the players. Do you think the Sony is worth the extra $100?

Thanks.

It depends what you're looking for, have you seen the newly-added Blu-ray and DVD features in PS3 firmware 1.8?

Currently the PS3 seems to be the best Java-handling player.

The new Panasonic is the one I'd be going for as a stand-alone.

I was thinking about that but with the rumored 80GB one coming to the US and a price cut. I might wait to see if they update the PS3 line at all and then might pick up another one....is the quality going to be any better on the stand alone player or is the PS3 just as good?

Right now, I am impressed with the PS3 but I have heard the picture on the S1 is amazing...

PS3 is the best thing around right now. Not only do you get all the good BD stuff, but you have wireless/wired internet, muli-media card readers, updateable pretty consistently, streaming media from other computers, DVD upscaling, etc, etc, etc.
For the price, there is no better BD player!!!
For the product, there is no better BD player!!!

I have to agree. I've been waiting for second gen players for a while to replace my Sammy BDP-1000, but looks like I'll pick up PS3 and be done with it for a while. With latest updates it's very hard to beat at this point.

Panasonic is the best standalone player out right now, especially for $600.

Wait little longer on Standalone players for Blu-ray, and keep PS3 as your primary Blu-ray player for now.
