Default PSP noob questions

ive been getting interested in the psp lately, but i dont really know much about them. i just thought they were really stupid and never gave them a chance when they first came out since the price was so high. now that the price has dropped, im looking at possibly getting one. what is the pros to having one of these? im asking you guys because i trust this community.

also, which one is the newest one right now? is it the 3000? is there one coming out soon enough to just wait?? just curious and would like some help...

The 3000 is the newest one. I like the one I have, I use it when I travel and during long waits. The battery has a solid lifespan and it has wireless Internet. You can even save your digital copies to Memory sticks, although I've never been able to pull that off. Totally your call, dude.

I own the 2000 and have almost no idea what the difference is between the 2000 and the 3000, sorry. I'm sure another PSP user will be along shortly to help you there.

Well I hope this doesn't get me in trouble then. I wish it were easier to put digital copies on my PSP. I wish the movies were actually compatible with other media and I wish the games were better.

It does have an optional RGB cable to plug it into an HDTV but I guess if you only have one that really doesn't matter. The screen is only 4" so no if you're not going to use it outside the house I wouldn't recommend it.

The problem with the PSP is that it should do a lot of things well, but doesn't do many of them well at all. It has a TON of potential that was never really realized by Sony. Here are the cool things about it that ended up sucking because of lack of support:
  1. Remote Play with the PS3: This is cool because you can turn the PS3 on and off and view photos, videos and listen to music that is connected to the PS3. The down side is that this is limited to being in locations with WiFi. The PSP is a travelling device and the minute you drive out of a WiFi range, you lose connection. It's great to share photos, videos and music when you're at family members houses, but they have to have WiFi and they have to give you their security codes, etc. It's just too complicated and time consuming for most people. Another down side is that Remote Play is not supported for most (if not all) PS3 games and you definitely can't view Blu-Ray movies that may be in the PS3 console via Remote Play on your PSP. Which leads me to my next point...
  2. Most Blu-Rays that include digital copies are NOT supported on the PSP. These digital copies are only compatible with iPhones/iPod's/iTouch's and Windows PlayForSure devices. Lame. The only digital copies that work on the PSP are from Sony Pictures and, frankly, those are the movies I want the least (although your opinion may differ).
  3. The games. There aren't very many great ones. I have Ratchet & Clank and God of War: Chains of Olympus. Those are good, but other than that, I can't find any games that are worth the purchase price.
  4. There was going to be this big push for the PSP to be an accessory to PS3 games. I heard that the PSP could be used as a rear view mirror for some racing game when playing it on the PS3, but I don't know if that ever surfaced.
  5. UMP movies are a failure.
  6. Internet browser is really not-that-great.
I'll let you know if I can think of any more.

3G maybe? I mean if it's just for photos, music and some video, 3G should be enough.
For the most part, I agree. My main point was that you can't watch discs are are in the PS3 or play any PS3 games that may be loaded in the PS3 or on the hard drive.

Not a lie. Just subjective. That's all.

I'm just saying, movies aren't even being released on this format anymore and the fact that you can't get Blu-Ray movies in a compressed format that will play back in the PSP is a joke. The PSP is not the best solution for movie playback. If you want mobile movie playback, an apple product would be the best solution. This is the fault of DRM, but the fact remains that Sony hasn't done anything to license Windows PlayForSure so that we can play back all of these digital copies that are not currently recognized by the PSP. If mobile movie playback is important to you, pick another product.

The card game High Stakes On The Poker Strip: Poker Edition works perfectly via Remote Play!!
