Default LOTR blu-ray?

I wonder if LOTRs will come out on HD or BD?

I bet Warner is waiting for BD-J to be finalized before they let New Line announce LOTR.

New Line is Time Warner, so it will definitely be on both formats if HD DVD is still around by then.

Toshiba are about to go tits up if they put HD DVD readers in every laptop. Are they really that dumb? Do they know that the format will be done before they get around to doing that which is why they're announcing such foolishness?

I think they're trying to show commitment to the format, so people who look at the state of it versus BD will at least see that Toshiba themselves have not lost faith in it. I think this is a very dumb move, and very late to be effective, but I think that they want fence-sitters to believe that it will be ubiquitous, and not just for movies. This due to the fact that blu-ray computer drives are out and more are on the way, showing blu-ray isn't limited to just movies (as the PS3 already shows).

LOTR will appear either this Christmas or next Christmas, and I guarantee you it will be the theatrical cuts

You won't see the extendeds until Hobbit comes out. Don't forget, they'll need 2 BD-50s for maximum effect just for the movie, plus at least one more for extras, and they want to make sure capacity is there to support it

Where do you get that from? We've discussed before that the extendeds could fit on one BD-50 (each). It's one HDDVD-30 that they won't fit on. Also, who knows when The Hobbit will get into production, since Peter Jackson is in a legal battle w/ New Line right now.

Do a search and look for the old threads on this.

It would be nice to see LOTR extended cuts on a single 50GB disc. If they include zero special features and only one sound format DDTrueHD or whatever and axe any DTS then I think they could each fit on one disc. Add an extra 25 or 50GB disc for special features for each movie and you could have an awesome LOTR Extend Cut 6 disc Blu-ray set. Cool

I"d prefer to see it in 7.1 pcm audio instead since right now the bdps300 won't decode true HD and that's probably the one I"m gonna get
I've heard from some people that pcm is a bit better than true hd, although they're both theoretically lossless, DD is still encoded, pcm isn't right?
