I'm excited.
But I was wondering about the "Viera Link" capabilities. It appears that it has to be a wired connection as I keep getting the error that there is no LAN cable plugged in, and I can't seem to find a wireless option. This seems insane to me, as everything is wireless in most households that I know of... but I wanted to check here. Sorry I didn't look in the manual, but I was supposed to be @ work 90 minutes ago! |

The G10 can't go wireless, this would have been a great feature, but no wireless. As far as the viera capabilities, well you will see that you can watch youtube, rent and purchase movies and shows on amazon on demand, and a few other things, stock ticker and weather reports, but all in all it's pretty cool, ecspecially the amazon video on demand.... oh and congrats my G10 brother

Didn't want to make a new thread. Just got my 50G10! Been watching national geographic zoomed in thx mode. It's definitely not dim like people say it is. I think i will use thx for everything. Colors look great and the brightness is not bad at all, I used to set my sammy A550 lcds backlight to 4 with energy saver on low, so I'm used to a none "torched" picture. Tv looks excellent thus far and all I've seen on it is zoomed 1080i content from satellite.
![]() ![]() Here are some pictures off the set, running break-in images from the sd card currently. Last edited by Kryptron; 05-06-2009 at 09:37 PM. |

I leave mine on automatic as well, and ive played many video games and plenty of BR's and no IR, so i would suggest leaving it there......My first G10, had a dead pixel and man im a bit of an obsessive compulsive so i exchange for another G10, loving it, oh and i never heard any buzzing from either of the sets, so not sure what the guys on the avs forum's are talking about, but to be honest alot of people on the avs forums seem to like to complain about nothing alot, and i find it very hard to get any real info out of them, i know there's some folks over there with lots knowledge, but seems like evertime i had a question, i got pushed aside for some, mine's bigger than yours bout

As far as the stuck pixel i only notice it on the white screen from the break-in images, it is not lit on any other color that I've seen. I am very picky about stuff like that too, but it's not a huge deal since i don't notice it while watching tv and I've tried looking for it. I ran the break-in images for 3 hours and now I've been watching some tv on thx with brightness/contrast lowered and using zoom on 4:3 content. SD programing looks a lot better then it did on my 40" sammy lcd. ![]() ![]() Here is a picture of close encounters from HDnet, using ZOOM in THX mode with contrast at 45 brightness at 50: ![]() victimsofadown I'm sorry, didn't mean to hijack your thread. No worries.
I've been running break in images since Tues. Only watched the thing for maybe 6 hours total, have my bright/contrast both @ 40 (I'm paranoid!!!) and I've seen nothing even resembling a hint of IR, but I suppose that's the point ![]() My set DOES buzz, though. I don't see why it would be a big deal though... only time you can hear it is when it's DEAD silent... and the only time it would be DEAD silent is if you aren't watching the TV. And after the break in time is over, then the TV won't be on if I'm not watching it. AMIRIGHT?! |

http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showthread.php?t=1128487 I have been watching programs full screen and using the slide show when I'm not watching tv to help age the display evenly, and possibly reduce the risk of "IR" since the phosphor will wear a bit fast in the first 100-200 hours of use. As of now I've displayed the break-in images on my set for about 11 hours and have watched about 7-8 hours of other stuff without black bars. 109 more hours to go for me. ![]() The break-in process is not affecting my viewing, thankfully there are plenty of movies and programs with out black bars to watch. ![]() Last edited by Kryptron; 05-08-2009 at 07:50 PM. |

Viera Link is a technology that lets you control all of your HDMI connected devices with the TV remote. Unfortunately there are compatibility issues when you connect multiple different manufacturers stuff. For example I have the Panny G10, Onkyo 605, PS3, and a Scientific Atlanta Cable box. Viera Link doesn't see any of them. Viera Cast is the online feature, and yes you need to run a wire directly to the set. |

I think I PMed you about it awhile back, but in any event:
Back when I first got an HDTV I learned that they rescale standard-def images before displaying them. If the scalers are sufficiently fast, no problems occur, but if they are slow, scaling delays the image by a portion of a second. The delay is enough is throw the timing of video games off. Since then, I've advised anyone with a PS2 or older games to bring it to the store and test it on the TV you're checking out. My first field test is Mega Man Anniversary Collection. If Mega Man can run to the edge of a platform and jump, I move on to the ultimate test with Space Channel 5. That's a rhythm game, so if there's lag on the TV, I'll know. The Pioneer plasma I tried out, while a phenomenal looking TV, failed the game tests. I turned around and got a perfect score on Stage 2 of SC5 Part 2 except for one intentional misstep (making sure God Mode wasn't on). So, per my research, I think the Pioneer 141FD is an amazing screen nearly unrivaled for movies and TV, but my Panny is a gamer's TV. Of course, other Pioneer models may not have that same problem, so as I said, bring your old school games and test it out first. |
