I hope it's just not me. Ever since I heard the term "man cave" used, it grates on my last nerve. It sounds so stupid. It was worse when CNN did a whole thing about it for a month having people submitting pics of their "man caves".
Ugh. That phrase brings to mind several things.. 1 - Man sex. 2 - Guys that are ruled by women. 3 - It sounds like Man Pu**y. That's what pops into my head. No offense, but what grown man uses that term? Seriously? "Hi guys!" "Come on in to my man cave and have some fun!". ![]() |

I think your subconscious might be twisting "man cave" to mean more than it's supposed to...at least it's not called a "man goatse"

I don't care for it, and I'll never use it! I like my Lounge. Sounds more classy, IMO.

![]() As for alternatives, how about anything BUT man cave. What comes to mind when you think man cave? Honestly? It just sounds dirty. Yes - it is WAY over used. |

The term is fine when used correctly. I am married and this is what is in my man cave:
1. Its in the basement. Necessary. A man cave should feel like a cave, where it is colder than the rest of the house. 2. The windows are blacked out. Noon or midnight, same light. 3. Beer on tap. Other beer in the man fridge. Bottles of liquor on the bar. 4. 120" of screen. 1080 lines of resolution. Dual subs. 5. 12' of homemade bar. 42" LCD over the bar. 6. Several guitars, amps, keyboard, mics, mic stands. 7. A lock on the cave side of the door. 8. The gun/ammo/camo room. 9. A seperate 20w bulb in the bathroom for a more peaceful environment. I'm not putting on makeup in there, give me some ambiance. Extra credit items I don't currently have: Stripper pole or urinal. Items that immediatly disqualify a space from being a man cave: - Women's knick knacks. - Flowers - Pastel colors - Anything lace (other than clothes left behind by strippers) - Direct sunlight |

Around here, the term is usually Mantown for such a place in the house. Probably thanks to a local radio station (WAAF) using the term a lot and even having a Mantown Giveaway once a year.
I don't care for the term Man Cave; that sounds......kinda wrong. My "Mantown" has a bunch of junk in it - pool table, ping-pong, darts, fridge with beer, weird collectables, tons of movies, CDs, 360/PS3 games, the theater, the PC and PC games, very dark, half underground so it stays cold. I am lacking the stripper pole, though. Last edited by SDon1969; 05-18-2009 at 08:39 PM. |

Mantown sounds more perverted than man cave IMO.

Lol, sounds like the makings of a sausage fest! ![]() On a serious note, I understand some guys like having their own place. Makes sense. Just not fond of the term at all, as stated previously. |

The term always to me represents a haven where a man retreats from the GF and Wife, and it's absent of flowery add-on's, floral patterned furnishings, things like that. Not that it can't be tastefully appointed, mind you. Now, IMVHO, the beer fridge and cinder block tables and so forth as just symbols of "I refuse to grow up" in which case that's too far.
In my home, when I was married or had an S.O., there was always one space that I could lay claim too that didn't have a woman's touch. Sometime's that was the garage, but who cares. ![]() |
