Default Asian Horror Films

I used to write these films off as a fad, but now im really begining to see what they have to offer. I even watched a few Korean slasher movies and thought they were pretty original. I saw Battle Royale a couple of months ago and loved it. These types of movies can me remade in America but never as good as the original. I mean Ive seen Shutter, One Missed Call, etc. but none even The Grudge, lived up to the hype. Now I hear Thailand is getting into the act.

Is American horror really that out of it? Is torture porn our answer to the Asian invasion?

As a European, my simple answer is yes. The longer answer is American horror is different, when you come up with original horror, it can be great (Nightmare, Friday, Halloween), just stop taking films and doing sub par remakes. How long will it be before you remake;

Let the right one in
Creep
Decent
28 Days Later (already done with 28 weeks)
Dog soldiers. Best werewolf movie ever

I loveeeeeee Asian Horror! American horror sucks!!! lol Watch 3 extremes....its 3 horror shorts sold by "Asian Extreme". Watch Premonition (not the BS Sandra Bullock version that they basterdized). Audition...there are several others that I enjoy but cant bring to mind right now. LOL. I cant wait for Asian Extreme to start shipping these films on BD to the States.

it'll still be better than the craptastic american horrors that have been coming out lately. lol. however all the asian extreme movies that i have on dvd are the directors cut. 3 extremes actually has the full lenght version of "dumplings" (which is a sick sick movie...but I love it, lol) on the 2nd disc.

I'm guessing your a koontz fan (like me ) any idea when the hell the 3rd Frankenstein book is coming out? I been waiting for it for years... lol

I heard there is a remake in the works
Really? I'd say the best werewolf movie was a toss up between An American Werewolf in London, Silver Bullet and the first Howling

Aside from a few exceptions, American horror stopped being good when we entered the 90s.

I don't see what the big deal with Asian horror is or why America feels the need to remake them. They all seem to be about the same thing over and over. The ghost of someone who was wrongfully murdered comes back for revenge. They're getting almost as bad as all the American slasher films from the 80's.

Machine Girl was so much fun! I still have to watch TGP... in fact putting it in my netflix queue right now!

But back on topic. I have to agree as well.
All Hollywood has been doing is either remake foreign films, remake/reboot older movies or simply continue to produce crappy and more over-the-top-than-the-last movies in a franchise.

Come on writers/directors/studios! Come up with some OWN original ideas!
It cannot be that hard!
I am not saying that all the recent remakes are bad, but this is getting old.
Look at some of the more independent movies that came out-

Dead and Breakfast for example. Just imagine this one done with a bigger budget! (No I am not saying remake it!).

It seems like they have to keep pushing the envelope with more gore and new ways to show how to torture people. The sad thing is that people suck it up...
How about a new mood-driven film?

Something scary and not purely disgusting !

Can it be that hard?

Try these then;

Ab-normal beauty
Bloody reunion
The Heirloom
R-point.

All great flicks and not a ghost in any of them.
Got them on my last trip to Thailand and should be on SD now or soon in the US.

If you thought Machine Girl was fun. You'll love TGP (chiche` I know). Media Blasters need to get their butts on the blu-ray bandwagon now and release these movies.

The American Counterparts of these films are a joke, and it's "Our fault", if you ask me.

Japanese Thrillers are slow paced, slow enough that the suspense makes your adrenalin rush through you for no good reason. When something really happens, it's graphic and intense.

"Ichi The Killer"
"Dark Water"
"Audition"

These films along with many others I used to watch on "The Sundance Channel" every sunday night.

Any American variation of a Japanese thriller will result in a fast paced, in your face horror flick that will be forgettable within a few hours.

The problem with American Horror is that they come up with a good ideal its a success at the box office and 10 more follow when the original tied the story up pretty nicely.
Yes, asian horror tend to have sequels but not to the extreme that American Horror has.

OP...you should check out
The Eye
Audition
A Tale of Two Sisters
One Missed Call
Rec

Shutter
