So, since I'm pretty short on money but still would like ot have some sort of AV with decent sound, I stumbled upon this little fellow.
It seems to be the new cheapo from Onkyo, which would be fine by be, as long as I can get 5.1 PCM sound from it. Does somebody know for sure? Since I'm not able to find out till now. Looking at the specs, also on the 604, I can't find anything indicating it. Or is there something in it, that says it? Thanks and bye Fenris Last edited by greatfenris; 06-18-2007 at 01:21 AM. |

All of the the new Onkyo receivers output LPCM (all receivers that end in an 05) last years models (end in 04), I believe won't. I just got a helluva deal at Circuit City for the 605 model yesterday. Price...$441 including tax and no interest for 18 months!.
This morning I was going to pick up the 805 model instead because I had a 10% off coupon and the price on the website was $839.99 but when I came back tonight the price jumped up, which I would have bought the 805 at the great price! Oh well. Here is a link to good information. This is the link to all of Onkyo's manuals including the brand new models and this will answer a lot of questions. Thanks! I think I found the answer finally, although I should've known it, since it was kinda obvious.
The 505 passes only video via HDMI but no audio. So this is settled then. Would've been to nice to have PCM for under 300 euros. |

Wow that does suck on the 505! Well I know the 605 and 805 have it. It's too bad...you would think they would give you at least a taste of the good life on an entry level receiver, especially an 07 model, since they are not giving you Dolby TruHD or DTS-MA.

Yeah! Why give a 1080p passthrough and not at least PCM 5.1? Heck make a bit more expensive for it, but do it. It would've been cheaper anyways.
Since there is no cheap 604 around (almost as much as the 605 here in Germany), I'll wait for a good opportunity on the 605. |
