Post in here if you don't have MySpace, Facebook, or Twitter.

Presocial-networking sites like Zanga and Geocities are fine.

I have a Facebook, MySpace, and Twitter account and find it can be useful for maintaining contact, but in general it's a little overbearing how readily available personal information about people is. I love when people complain about lack of privacy while having and maintaining a Facebook or Twitter account.

Don't know what twitter is and don't use the other 2. I created a Myspace account 2 or 3 yrs ago, and when I realized what it was all about, I decided to jump back into the 2000's and now use my phone or email.

It's mindblowing!

I don't use any of those sites. I don't like unnecessary personal information floating around out there for everyone to see. I figure there's already too much of that as there is. I was a little uncomfortable with the simple idea of posting pics in my HT gallery, but I did it anyway.

using e-mail and phone isn't in the 2000's with regards to networking.

Especially if you need to reach a ton of people really fast who you don't necessarily have all of their contact info for.

I have an account with one of the three, but I don't update it (I changed the profile picture last week, which is the first time I've edited anything in over 2 years...the only time I log in is if someone sent me a friend request, but I tend to let those pile up for a few months before confirming a bunch at a time). Does that count?

Friend list maintenance is very helpful, it was like a bandaid, some people I wasn't sure if I should delete I just did and my list now contains people who can readily begin a conversation with.

Birthdays on Facebook are huge for ones ego too. Birthday greetings get posted, person updates their status "thank you", and life goes on. I prefer to respond to each person, I figure they took the time out of their day to wish me a happy birthday (even if it was 6 seconds), so why not.

Close enough. I had a Myspace at one point but deleted it. I didn't see a point.

One of my friends went so far as to block all text messages to his phone. He said "If people really want to get a hold of me they will call me."

I have friends who complain I'm not on there as well. Maybe I'll try your response next time, and hopefully they'll leave me alone about it.

I don't mind text messaging on the phone if I want to tell someone something really quick like "check out free live mma on spike right now!" and I know they will be drunk and long winded and I don't want to talk to them . or talk some quick smack during a game or something.

I also hate going back and forth with text msgs. if it's more than 2 or 3 then just frickin call me for fricks sake

People's needs to network and spread themselves that thin have spawned these sites or services. I'd rather a core of quality contacts/friends that I can phone or email, than need to keep in touch with some bimbo I went to school with 20 yrs ago.

That's just me.

Used to have a myspace, but canceled it when it "got lame." Too much pacification of friends who I don't really care to pacify; too much maintenance for something that doesn't really interest me all that much anyway. I started my myspace page for the sole purpose of practicing HTML for free, but then it became more than that. Then I cut the cord.

Sorry, Tom

I tried Facebook for a few weeks over a year ago but it is such a fake concept, especially the "you have X amount of so called friends", that I leave it to those phony enough to like it.

Me too. We just got push-to-talk phones where I work. I hate that crap too. It makes everyone else mad when they try to reach me that way and I just call them instead of answering.

For work that's different though. It makes sense in that environment.

It's why Nextel was the leading phone of drug dealers before.

I know, but to be honest I use all three services and feel my opinion is neutral on the topic. I got Facebook in April 2005 when it was just starting up at my school, then it shut down, then they re-opened it that December and I consider myself an early adopter amongst my friends. However, when my parents, family and everybody on the planet got it, it became more of a need than something that was "fun". I deleted my Facebook recently for a couple days and got it back because it can actually serve a purpose other than to just blab about one's life. Deleting people I'll never truly talk to or haven't in a long time was important.

Texting I prefer to just call/see in person for the same reasons as MSN (can't properly interpret emotions) but I've had almost full conversations with people while at work. Also, short little sports score updates, trash talking, bar plans, etc. are fine by me.
