Default New to the place ;)

Hello my name is Tim and i'm from indianapolis. I googled blu-ray because i am thinking about getting into it and this site came up first so here i am.

From reading and research i think i will get a PS3. Right now i have a 52" samsung lcd & 5 polk speaker set. So my goal is to get a PS3 & a receiver.

I purchased a new house last year & had updates done to it, like a new deck, privacy fence etc. etc. So money has been tight. I am well to do but not rich or have close to what some of you have here by any means keep that in mind lol.

But yea the last gaming system i own is PS2 and yes i feel like i might be getting into a ps3 kinda late but i dunno? I played the uncharted demo at a friends a while back and i will definatley get that!

So just wondering your opinions. Whats the best PS3 to go for i think theres a couple different ones. And what is like 2 games to get. plus what will i need in all to get started.

And on the other hand whats a good receiver that doesnt cost a arm and a leg to go with what i will have all together.

Thats my story..and my questions...lol Thanks ahead of time for any suggestions & info

Greetings, newcomer!

Anyways, I think you're in the wrong thread. there's a "Newbie Discussion" thread, if you know what I mean.

Anyways, welcome to the Blu-fray!

Welcome, if your going for a PS3 the only real difference with the ones that are currently on the shelf is hard drive size and maybe an included game.

Hi Tim and welcome aboard. It is never late to jump on the show. A good receiver for the price would be the Onkyo 607 or the previous model the Onkyo 606. As far as the PS3 goes they are all the same as far as their BD movie capabilities. You will need a good HDMI cable too, and I recommend monoprice.com don't waste your money on the expensive Monster HDMI cables.

Starting next week you can get a free Blu-ray movie of Final Fantasy VII Advent Children Complete with an 80GB PS3 at GameStop. There may be other offers that have greater appeal.

The 160GB PS3 is bundled with Uncharted: Drake's Fortune which you should get no matter what.

You should also look into LittleBigPlanet, inFAMOUS, Killzone 2, MGS4 and Burnout Paradise. Links in my sig. vvv

Welcome to Blu-ray.com! It looks like you're off to a great start. I can vouch for the Yamaha 663 as others have stated. What Polk speakers do you have?

Get ready for this to become an addiction.

Since money is tight and you currently have a ps2.
I say wait for E3 and listen to what Sony will announce.
There is definitely no point in getting any PS3 with different hdd (SKU) because they all cost the same price.

If only the 40gb cost really less than the 80gb, I'll say you should get the 40gb model and upgrade the hdd later on.
