Default Uncharted 2 - annoyed at cutscenes. Please read

I always prefer games to have real time cutscenes just like how Resident Evil 5 was. I was disapointed that Uncharted 1 used pre-recorded video. The main drawbacks are potential compression artifacts and my worst game pet peeve, bonus costumes not showing up in cutscenes.

From when I heard Uncharted 2 was announced, I really hoped ND would make it FULL real time. I got the game today and it's an incredible experience but it still uses pre-recorded scenes. You can actually see a lot of artifacts (snow scenes) due to them using a low bit rate. Oh well, it doesn't break the experience but I would of liked to watched the cutscenes in my bonus costumes. I'm a bit surprised that ND didn't use a really high video bit rate to make up for the pre-recorded video sequences. They've talked a lot about the BD's disc size so I would've thought they would use up that space, 50gb need it be.

I would like to discuss this in gaming forums but most people there have no clue what I'm talking about.

It's because if they had cutscenes that rendered on the fly they wouldn't have textures of a high enough resolution to hold up to close ups.

Its video cutscenes to hide loading times, thats 99% of it. They could do the close ups and have it look amazing real time, but they want a seemless gaming experience like God Of War 1 & 2/Uncharted 1 did.

MGS4 must be one massive 1%. Its got the chunkiest, drawn-out, unnecessarily expositiony cut-scenes ever, and then a billion loading screens as well.

I HATE HATE HATE cut-scenes. I LURVE games that eliminate them entirely and put all story into the game world, like Bioshock. Absolutely superb. That's the way it should be. Fallout 3 and Half Life 2 are well done too because you participate in everything. They never take control away from you.

MGS4 is top notch in many ways, but it hardly trusts you to do anything!

Wow, i'm sure glad this cut-scene thing came along, I was getting tired of worried about folks losing their homes, world peace and folks going to bed with no food but thank the Lord this cut-scene issue popped up!

I'm gonna sleep a lot better tonight!

the only thing that bothered me with the cutscenes is that there were too many of them early on... maybe I was just too excited to start playing and got impatient have to watch the story build up first

I'm going to go the lazy route and just say I like the game the way it is. I think the cutscenes are great.

What I hate is loading screens--nothing takes me out of the storyline faster. So cutscenes don't bug me because 1) it moves the story along; 2) stops those damn loading screens; and 3) given me a chance to catch my breath!

I think I've watched more cutscenes than have actually played the game. I've been skipping them.

So basically this thread is about annoying cutscenes in a game that said it was going to have cutscenes. And then people chipping in about not buying it.

Basically, this thread is a party shiiter. lol Anyway, great game.

What's so annoying about cutscenes you can skip? At least you're not force to watch it from start to finish.

To me, the cutscenes looked awesome!
I'm not much in the technical side of things, if it looks great, that's fine enough for me. With or without it being real-time and what not. And if there's no installs, or load time, that's even better!

I am sure you weren't going to buy it anyways without having this thread here as some excuse. It's ok not to buy it, you don't need to blame something like cutscenes for not wanting it.

You really inferred the wrong things from my post. I LOVE the cutscenes and wish there were even more. However, I'm annoyed that they aren't rendered real time and that the video uses a low bit rate. I would think that this being the BLU RAY forum, people would care or agree about the quality. Guess not. I don't accept bad artifacting in this day and age on a blu ray disc.

Load times aren't so bad but I guess people here are SO impatient that a 5 second wait will break the experience. I would of traded no load times for real time cut scenes anyday.

I like the cutscenes because it makes it feel more like a movie that you are controlling (sort of), but I get where you are coming from if you change your outfit and all but that doesn't bother me...

Total nitpicking. The 'cut scenes' look fantastic and are nearly seamless. The most important thing and the reason they exist is their content and progressing an awesome story forward which they do incredibly well.
