Default Updates were already made????

I heard from a mate that the ps3 updates were already made even before the european launch. And there reason is to piss off microsoft to see what MS say about the PS3 and what its missing and then give it an update causeing MS to look like dick heads.

Do you think this is true?

Irl write it differently.

Microsoft say the ps3 is crap because it doesn't upscale DVD's to HI DEF. PS3 knew they would say that but waited for them to say it and then shut them up by giving the ps3 a update, alowing DVD's to be upscaled. Therefor pissing microsoft off lol.

What do you think?

Very possible, but unlikely. More likely, they had the intention of offering it the entire time, but didn't quite have all the bugs worked out in time.

I would hope Sony doesn't keep things from their customers for the sake of making their rival look silly. I'd be pissed.

I agree in saying that they were just working out the kinks with the upscaling and showing up microsoft was just an added bonus.

Okay...

I'm to believe Sony will screw over its own customers, keep its own product crippled, just long enough so they can laugh at Microsoft?

Sorry, if that were the case, then non-PS3 owners *all* would be laughing at Sony, while PS3 owners would all be pissed off with Sony.

Thankfully this "theory" is not plausible. Who comes up with this stuff?

I'd say unlikely. Probably more likely to be the debugging thing. It's much more mature to release a product with a certain amount missin (until firmware updates) rather than do a Microsoft and cure problems after the customers have spent their hard earned cash and already become annoyed at the product.

On another vein, what does 'FUD' stand for / mean?

Fear, Uncertainty, Doubt - rumors and misinformation meant to scare potential buyers away from a product....

Pretty much, Sony's method to upscaling was to actually use the processing power in the PS3 instead of plopping on an upscaler chip to the board.

Now, Sony's software solution wasn't ready at launch, but it was also known to be coming, *shrug*. It's a past issue now though, both do it.

The 360 duz it too?!!! Wow. Wouldn't that kill it lol. I thought it was a bit too much 4 the 360. Surly it pushes processing to the limit? I bet steam comes out of it lol.

The 360 upscales through use of 'Anna', or an onboard chip that does the work. Which is pretty much the same way most upscaling DVD players do it. This 'feature' was locked out of the 360 until a patch that came out near the PS3 launch. Unlike the PS3 update [which introduced a software solution], this was a simple patch 'turning on' a hardware feature.

[ Edit / Add ]
Further, unless I'm mistaken, there's also a chance for a difference in formula approach. The 360/Anna solution does not upscale old X-Box video games. The PS3 solution does upscale old PS2 [and PS1] games.

I won't pretend to know anything about the math formulas behind upscaling, but I imagine with movie playback, being able to predict the next scene helps.

This just isn't true - Sony has way too much riding on the PS3 to be olding back updates just to show up a rival later in the game. Plus - only a few hardcore folks would even get into this news because Joe-public wouldn't care.

Sony is hurting for PS3 sales right now - only 81,000 units last month, 50% of what X-box 360 sold and Halo 3 is just around the corner. They can't afford to play little games - its costing people jobs. If the video game department continues to lose money at such a high rate, why would Sony keep it around?

I have also heard that there was not a big rush on getting it to upscale games, because historically, when game systems have upscaled the games to HD, the game developers write in lower resolutions, and rely on the system to make them HD.... I had heard thta Sony saw this happen with the 360, and didn't want their developers to have that crutch and rush low quality games to the platform. If the system won't upscale, the HD games have to really be written in HD.
