Default noob question - blu-ray only playing once?

I've had my Sony blu-ray player for about 6 months and this is the first time this has happened to me. I purchased the blu-ray disk(s) for Weeds season 4. Put the first disk in, watched a few episodes, and turned it off. Next day wanted to continue watching but unable to do so. Everything seems to load, but doesn't seem to go to the menu to select episode, set-up, etc. The audio will play, but no visual and then seems to get stuck.

So I decided to try the second disk. Watched an episode, turned it off. This morning, decided to watch another episode and same problem. Have tried turning off blu-ray, unplugging, etc and nothing seems to work.

Has anyone ever had a similiar problem?

Make sure your firmware is updated.

Unfortunately, most BDs now are like the messages in Mission Impossible: they self-destruct after one viewing.

I kid! Update your firmware.

Please remember, I am a complete and utter noob with newer technology - so let me ask this about updating firmware.

My PC is nowhere near my TV and it would take a lot to move everything by the TV. Would it be possible to upgrade the firmware by simply uninstalling the device from the TV, bring to the compute, plug in the device, and then upgrade the firmware via the computer?

Perhaps my user name should actually be Techno-peasant!

No, you can't do that.

There is plenty of info in other threads (like the Sony s350 thread) regarding updating, but check out Sony's site, too. You can update in one of two ways: 1) via your ethernet (which you said won't work); or 2) by making a disc.

The disc has to be a burned image, so hopefully your burning software has that capability.
