Default I have harmony remote...how to make it work with PC....Noob alert...

Hey Y'all

SO I got this harmony remote a while ago and never really care to make it work with my computers (xp & vista). I do now. What do I need besides the remote?

I have an usb-ir thingy that I used once for transferring things through my phone (old cellphone w/o bluetooth or usb). Would that be able to receive the signal?

Anyway, I would like a list of things I would need to acquire to make this remote work.

THankx for bearing through this......any advice would be greatly appreciated....

Windows would have to have the appropriate drivers and/or software emulation to make it work. I've never heard of Logitech supporting the pc but probably the best people to ask about this would be Logitech/Harmony support. I'm betting that you're going to be out of luck unless you can get it to emulate a wireless mouse/keyboard through programmable/learning functions.

I know people have gotten this to work. Maybe I am asking in the wrong forum. I should find a forum that specialized in HTPC. Even the software for the remote for a windows media center setting. THanks for the info. I will head over to logitech's forum.

You could try posting it over here: https://forum.blu-ray.com/forumdisplay.php?f=35 in the PC area. It's very possible that Logitech or someone else has already written an emulator to work with the remote, but without one I can't see it working.

Select your operating system and then download the software. Once the software has been installed, it will begin taking you through step by step.

Plug your remote in with the usb cable provided when it asks you to. If you don't know - the usb port is located in the rubber flap on the top of the remote. Its where the black ir sensor is.

Continue through the steps and you'll eventually come to your equipment. Make sure to note down the brand and model # for your equipment (TV, Receiver, Blu-ray Player, TV Broadcast Box..). You'll also want to make a note of your inputs. For example, input 3 on the TV is for the Blu-Ray player and input 2 is for TV channels.

It will also ask about your receiver inputs, so note that, too.

Nice! Looks like Logitech has their ducks in a row.

THanks for the reply guys...I think I was being a bit unclear. I am able to get the logitech remote to work with ALL my tvs/dvd plyers/ ect. What I am confuse about is making it work with my pc so taht I can control the pc.

FOr example, click a button to open media player on my pc, use the play/pause/ff/rw on the remote to controll the media play. That's more of what I was looking for. Thanks anyway, guys and sorry if I wasn't being clear about it in the first place.

I know for a fact that to get this to work, I need to buy a receiver for my pc so that it can receive signal from the remote. That's where I will start....

Well, when you are in the Harmony software, you can add a computer as a device. Once you get the IR hardware for the computer, adding the commands to the Harmony should be no more difficult then adding any other device.

Just bought a harmony one and having problems with the software when i try to run it after it opens i get this message any advice?

The file "CB_CheckAllasp" is of type application/octet stream, and seamonkey does not know how to handle this file type. This file is located at http://myremotesetup.com

it then asks me if i want to open it, and if so choose a program or do i wish to save to disk
