Why the hell would Stockholm celebrate piracy? They have TPB's first server in a museum. WTF?

Surprising.. my thoughts on downloading have never changed.. I dont agree with it when it comes to movies, but with music some try before you buy is good.. but theres no reason why people cant use iTunes previews now a days.

Yeah, your right.

But it sums it up.. I feel more strongly about it with movies simpy because I'm a quality freak and most of the downloaded stuff i've seen is poor quality.

With music unless it's a band that are really rare and hard to find.. theres a way of buying it legit.

If you like a song enough to download it why not pay the very small fee on legal download sites?

If your a fan of Norwegian black metal demo's from the mid 90's then fair play.. you aren't likely to find them on iTunes, download away!

These men did nothing wrong. TPB doesn't even host files just other files that allow other people to connect to others that have files. That's like arresting the people at UPS or FedEx for delivering packages containing drugs to each other.

Go after the individuals who have the actual pirated files, not the middlemen.

They are facilitating piracy. Without their kind, there would be a lot less of it going around.

What if I don't sell drugs, but I tell you where to get them. And I make a profit from doing it. My hands never touch it, but I am part of a criminal organization. And I agree with you, now go after all the people who used their site to pirate files.

Why were servers on IRC never taken down? Or newgroups that posted entire copies of games and movies?

It just seems odd to go after someone who doesn't even offer the pirated material when there are still places that are easily accessible that have been around for far longer than torrents have existed.

Services like early Napster and Kazaa, yes, those are horrible and should never have been created. TPB isn't really doing anything wrong. Yes it's misguided and a bad idea, but why jail them?

Hey, I agree with you. Take them all down. Remember the old mafia trials with 20 defendants? I wouldn't have a problem with 20 million defendant trials. These people involved with this just really annoy me. They are some of the most smug people you'll ever meet, and I welcome any attempt to take them down a peg.

i don't condone any kind of downloading really, but i don't think the pirate bay is a bad place. there are some things i will download. but that usually is stuff that i don't care if the quality isn't up to snuff. that doesn't include seasons of tv shows i can buy or blu-ray movies. i will download music but that is usually live shows and studio material. most of that i download though is ok'ed by the artists themselves and in some cases is even offered for download by the artist. i don't though download whole albums.

Yep, there are some thing you just can't find for sale anywhere. Like live DJ sets at some big music festivals.

C,mon.... it's called The Pirate Bay. If a delivery business set up shop and named themselves The Illegal Drug Carriers, and knowingly delivered dope every day.... they'd deserve arrest too.

Music and movie files are a far cry from things like drugs. Does piracy hurt people? Maybe financially. Does it do so to the extent that it requires jailtime? No.

If you want to go after them sue them. Make them take downt he servers. Don't jail them. If you're going to do that then JAIL EVERYONE doing it.

Meh. As long as it's still up, I'll still use it.
And even if it weren't, there are MORE than enough other options out there. The Pirate Bay is certainly not the only game in town.

I agree with that...... and start with the people downloading it first. If there were no downloading thieves... there would be no purpose for these sites.

Nor is it the worst of the bunch. There are far worst sites out there that are better organized and more private than TPB.

It will be interesting if the studios ever decide to use BitTorrent like they say.

Does Madoff deserve a fine, or jail time? He didn't actually hurt anyone physically.

I don't think that's a fair comparison. People trusted their life savings on Madoff. No one's life savings are riding on the chance that someone might d/l something online. If anything is destroying hard media music purchases it's iTunes.

People still buy movies and this year so far has been one of the strongest ever for Hollywood despite the recession.

Madoff's crimes had real victims who lost very real amounts of their livelyhood.
