Default Oliver and Co coming to Blu Ray (NL)

In a Dutch press release it is stated that Oliver and Co will arrive on Blu Ray on 19 august. No further specs are revealed, but I think it is great news. It made my day!

Unfortunately there is nothing mentioned about Pixar releases.

Bah...there are far better Disney "traditional" animated features that should come out before this (IMO).

Well they have to start somewhere. I am really excited that they are starting to release non Platinum titles. Besides... it could be worse.

True that. Lots of people like the newer stuff. I'm still waiting on Jungle Book and Peter Pan.

I think you will have to wait a bit on Jungle Book. That's a Platinum, which has already been released on DVD, and will go into the vault soon (if it hasn't gone into it).

I am not sure whether Peter Pan is a Platinum. I know there are beautiful DVD releases in Japan and France (last one with a French DTS track).

Are you sure that this is a Blu release? As far as I'm aware Disney have only announced animated Platinum titles for the Blu format.

Could you provide a link?

If it is true, I hope Disney do a good re-master, the new re-release DVD is pretty ropey in parts.

Still, I really hope this is correct and it's a sign of things to come!

If we don't get it, I'll import it for sure (if it's Region Free..)..

Are Disney releases usually region free?

Their two Platinum Blu's have been but other titles vary. New titles tend to be locked but occasionally titles, National Treasure 2 for example, are released without region coding. I think it has something to do with overseas theatrical release dates and distribution rights. Catalogue titles are often free, but again there are exceptions. It's generally a bit unpredictable!

I only got the "new" DVD, and the transfer is questionable. However, this is probably just a rumor.

I honestly think Disney should start releasing their lesser stuff now. Stuff like this and "The Black Cauldron" which we'll eat up anyway just because it's Blu.

Given it's a great transfer, obviously..

Remember that when Oliver and Company was first announced for America, the press release stated that it was to come for the first time in High Definition. They were only talking about the master that was used to encode the movie, but it confused a lot of people, this site's editors included (it may say No Release Date now, but it did say the DVD release at first ).

This is probably the same thing.

I just can't see Disney announcing such an important title in such a way. They would announce it at the same time for everywhere, or for the US first, then everywhere else later.

It appeared on the Dutch releaselists on www.dvd-home.nl and dvd.nl (blu ray release list topic). Both are quite reliable sources. Over here it is not unusual Disney put out a press release with expected titles for the next few months. This is mostly followed with press releases for the individual titles about one month before release.

For now; August 19th it is.

Too bad their press release is just a recap of the movie, with the line "Vanaf 19 augustus verkrijgbaar op Blu-ray en DVD" in red at the top, similar to all the other recaps on the page. Which probably means dvd-home.nl added it and it wasn't part of the press release.

When the press release got out for the American release, many sites said it was coming for Blu-ray and DVD too, because of the confusing way high definition was mentioned in it.

I'd love to be proven wrong, but I won't get my hopes up. I may not be able to sleep tonight, but I still won't get my hopes up.

You want this piece of offal on Blu-Ray?

Well, if it comes, good. Might as well get the lower films out of the way now.

Peter Pan is a Platinum over here in the USA. I am not sure if it's a Platinum all over the world or not.

No, the Platinum Blu's are not Region Free as you falsly declare here!

They are Region Locked and that for a simple reason; since they include the DVD as well (which is always Region Locked). It would be even more confusing to get a Blu-ray which is Region Free and the included DVD would be Region 1.
I guess that's a reason they Region locked SB and Pinocchio....

Oops! That was a careless mistake of mine. I meant to say; Their two Platinum titles haven't been...(region free)!
Didn't mean to 'falsely declare,' as you put it, anything - just didn't check the wording of my post.

Sorry for any confusion, folks!

Disney Platinums, up till now, have been locked but their other titles vary. Bug's Life is region free - if anyone is interested.

Matt
