the article says ARE MORE LIKELY to upgrade, not they definitely will, which is what the title insinuates, which is also an unjustifiable claim by the author. No one can definitively say wii owners WILL upgrade.
also like Icemage pointed out, this is directly from a guy who works from Sony, of course he is going to say that. I personally think he is biased, some Wii owners could just as easily upgrade to a 360 instead of a PS3, but he doesn't mention that at all since he works for Sony obviously. Also, wasn't the PS2 and N64 two separate life cycles? |

Maybe Sony should start some kind of trade in program for Wii owners upgrading to PS3. |

As much as I enjoy using my ps3. The two consoles are for entirely different markets, Wii is for people that tend to play casually and heavily used in parties and kids, but of course hardcore gamers do play the Wii for some of it's games it has, most people just plug and play, while some owners may have a High definition display, many of them will only use the composite cables that came with them and don't even bother to switch it in Widescreen. The PS3 is played by some hardcore gamers for it's exclusive, better build of hardware, and Playstation fans, many of us here (Myself) buy it for a Blu ray player. I may buy another for the living room (my existing one would be for the projector if I buy one) unless if I find a better and cheap one. Many of the casual gamers, kids, and even hardcore gamers and Playstation fans, may just go for the plug and play variation, as Wii owners do, use the compostie cables. Many, if not most of those Wii owners aren't going for a PS3, they will think of a game console and not a blu ray player, so they will likely buy a stand alone blu ray player (like some biased Home theater owners). Try to convince those owners that plug and play their Wii or PS3 to plug in HDMI cables to their TV, let alone encouraging them to calibrate it.

so some original or even 2007/early 2008 buyers of the wii could possibly upgrade (or may already have) to the lower tier 360s now that the price has dropped lower than the wii (until you have to buy the add-ons...) |

I don't think Sony can tap into the casual market..
the best the PS3 can do is the casual-hardcore market.... the PS3 would have to be $199 and offer a plethora of games for children and women... I doubt they can do all that on top of swaying the current casual gamers to purchase a 2nd console... |

1st came my PS3 and then the Wii. I have less games for the Wii but it gets equal game time compared to the PS3. However, the PS3 gets alot of time as a blu ray or DVD player. The only " hardcore" game I have for the Wii would be Zelda.
I am so sick and tired of hearing that the Wii is not a hardcore game system or that the Wii does not count as a next gen system. The Wii has new technology( making it next gen in my opinion) and has been kicking the crap out of the PS3 and 360 in sales. I know the graphics are not HD but they are not that bad and if the game is fun, who cares if it is in HD. I have been playing alot of FF7 and the graphics are horrible, but it is a fun game, and that is what really counts. Maybe Sony and MS should thank Nintendo for not having HD graphics cause it seems that alot of people think that is what makes a next gen sysytem. Then the "hardcore" games could be on the Wii and it would be game over for Sony and MS ![]() |

The Wii is less powerful than the PS2, I think, so it's definitely not next gen. Nintendo is making a hi def console for its next gen, rumor has it, but even its future console is going to be less powerful than PS3 (based on rumored specs)

just because the wii isn't high def doesn't mean it isn't next gen it is nintendo's next generation system, regardless of the resolution output/power it has power also means nothing sales wise, case in point, the PS2's and Wii's astounding sales numbers and the most powerful systems of the generations (Xbox and PS3) comparatively low sales |

As for the OP, I jumped ship after a month. I stood in line on launch night for the Wii. One month later I bought a PS3 and haven't looked back. Edit: Diesel is right. Even the GameCube was more powerful than the PS2 and Xbox. |

Actually I'd give the edge in generation 6 to the original Xbox.
As for the Wii, it's about twice as powerful as the original Gamecube computationally. So it's current gen (can we please stop saying "next gen" now that all three consoles have been out for more than two and a half years... please?). Of course, the Wii doesn't measure up hardware-wise to the Xbox 360 or PS3, but that doesn't mean it's not head and shoulders over the hardware from the 6th generation of game consoles. As for Wii to Xbox 360 converts, I can tell you that, at least in the Rock Band playing circles I wander in, most of the Wii owners who play Rock Band and want to upgrade to a better console gravitate to the Xbox 360 because of the mildly better feature set on that version of the game. Granted, this is a demographic where there is a measurable difference in capability between the versions on different consoles, but it still disproves the assertion that Wii owners will automagically gravitate toward the PS3 when they decide that they want online gaming / HD graphics. Oh, and the Wii does have its fair share of decent games, even not produced by Nintendo. There's not "many", but they do exist. |

I couldn't wait to get my hands on a wii, I look like fun and I was always a Nintendo guy (had an NES, still have a n64, and gamecube), so I bought one...It was good for about a month, but that is about it...They were much better games on the PS3 and I went and bought one, and I have never looked back. I am one of the people that did upgrade from a Wii to a PS3, so I can see the truth to the opinion.

And to say every other game is crap is so far from the truth it's not even funny. It's fine if you don't enjoy playing it as much as your PS3, or even at all, but there are a lot more good and even great games on the Wii. As for me, I started with a Wii. Purchased a PS3 a year later with the first price drop - mainly for the Blu-ray player. The systems have received close to equal game play time ever since. |
