Default We Need Spoiler Etiquette

This has been bothering me for quite some time. We don't seem to have any guidelines what so ever to deal with spoiler etiquette. I have had two spoilers recently ruined for me recently on blu-ray.com.

We need to have guidelines such as when something no longer is a spoiler, punishments for posting spoilers without proper warning, and what exactly a spoiler is for the n00bs who don't know.

Mods need to clean up the Metal Gear Solid thread in particular.

[Show spoiler]They also need a shortcut for the spoiler tags, like they do the other wrap tags. IMO.

For those who don't know how to...

spoiler (beginning of text) and then /spoiler (end of text) (both encapsulated in brackets [])

agreed. It seems I have only encountered these problems here. 9/10 times it starts out something like this: "I heard so and so is going to die" or "I heard so and so is so and so's son in the end"

Totally agree....suggestions for rules

1...Don't talk about New release movies, especially plot points of a movie(say Indy) till the Monday after the movie was released, giving people time to actually see the movie before you ruin the plot....

2...Telling me any plot points of Metal Gear before i play it...

I don't use spoilers for my micro reviews of movies because I don't tell you what the movie is about. I do make allusions to it that won't make sense until AFTER you've seen the movie.

Perhaps a seperate "Spoiler Ahead" thread for movies that have come out. That way it's harder to accidentally read a spoiler thread. People in a hurry might dash off a comment about the movie, and drop a hint that they don't think about and bam, that's the entire movie right there. So a before and after split in threads should hopefully alleviate that.

Whats interesting is spoilers are subjective, each one will consider something different a spoiler.. perhaps we need a system to classify content within spoilers.

Default People should be banned when not using spoiler tags!

Don't click on this if you haven't seen Transformers 2
https://forum.blu-ray.com/showthread.php?t=103067
Damn it! I assumed they would use spoiler tags in this thread.
How else would you know what what movie is spoiled? I'll tell you, there is no way.
In my book whenever "spoilers" is mentioned in a thread, people are OBLIGATED to use spoiler tags. It's not fair to other user who haven't seen a certain movie.
Would a MOD please answer. What is blu-ray.com's policy on this?
I vote for zero tolerance on this subject matter!

I've been trying to push for spoiler tags in movie threads for up to one week after release.

My thought is that if you're dying to see a movie, you'll see it within a week. After a movie is out a week, you should now that most people posting in the thread will have seen it so it would be wise to stay away until you do see it.

However, I suggest spoiler tags and try not to come off as policing (since I'm not a mod). It would be nice to have an official rule.

I will say this, I have reported posts that need spoiler tags and the mods are good about going and adding them. The only bad part is that I've already read the spoiler.

That is what angers me.
The damage is already done and nobody pays for it.
Which to me is a huge injustice.
I love movies and blu-ray.com is a wonderful place for me, but it's tiring when these things can happen to you, the only huge let down of blu-ray.com is the weak spoiler tag policy, this seriously needs more attention.
Is this a controversial matter? I guess they really don't want to ban costumers (which we all potentially are) and evidently spoiling movies is not a serious matter to them versus the money they might earn from the spoiler trolls.
?No?
And yes, they are Spoiler Trolls! the level of disrespect is too huge.
Films are my escape and dreams, when somebody spoils a film I haven't seen and WANT to see is ruining everything for me.
Essentially defeating the purpose of watching the movie!

I have to disagree with you there, I haven't seen Stanley Kubricks "Dr. Strangelove or: How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love the Bomb"
and I hope that nobody ever will spoil it to me!
Every single spoiler should have spoiler tags, regardless of when the movie was released. It's unfair to people and you can't expect everybody to have seen ALL classics.

I really hope somebody from blu-ray's staff will respond to this.

and thanks for your thoughts
