Thumbs up Interview re PS3 with SCE CTO & Mgr of AV Devt.

thanks to gunnerhkjp for translating the japanese text... read all at http://www.neowin.net/forum/index.php?showtopic=567411

Btw, BG music while gaming is possible under PS3; The developers have to use the ability, is all.

Good to know...

Interesting read. Looks like they still have alot to show to us that we haven't heard about. Interested to see what those things will be.

wow. great article. thanks. Love these guys sense of humour as well. It's clear they love what they are doing and are savy to the politics etc. Nice insight to the "trenches".

So not only audio in the background is possible and available to devs.. but pictures and video capability as well..maybe overlaying/transparencies of your own content with in game play - for example

And remote play SDK is available to devs as well..ooh la la. Damn. It just keeps getting better and better.

The amount of upgrades for AV that the PS3 can potentially do is scary. Great value for money!

I said that b4 i read it. Its still true.
If a PC can do as much as it can. The ps3 can do much more. Its all about the processing. And the ps3 has the most powerful proessor yet.

It was a good read btw lol.

Scary is the exact word.

Personally, I am already delirious with BD movies and games on my PS3. The day I get my paws on a spanking-new HDMI 1.1 (or better) amp and buy me some Oasis SACDs is the day I will have serious problems spending time with friends and chasing females... and that is saying something, esp the female bit, given how hot women are around here... Woof!

PS3? Huah!

Is the PS3 currently able to play back BD-R and BD-RE discs?

If it is not, that would be a very useful added function with an upcoming firmware update, at least in my case.

It was for this functionality that I went with the Panasonic Blu-ray player. I do not yet own a PS3, but that functionality would sway me into a purchase.

At least you have a company who is willing to give it's coustomers the best possible product.

Unlike some other Big companies ( *cough* MSFT)

My Brother is on his second Xbox 360 which was a waranty replacement for his orginal from best buy, and recently the second one has froze quite a bit and has him worried that his second 360 will also bite the dust in the near future.

Aparantly MSFT does not care since most of their users are desperate enough to buy new ones, keeping xbox 360 sales up. Those cheating bastards.
