Default BDP Suggestions!

Im looking to trade up from my PS3 to a standalone unit. There is really only a couple things that I am looking for in a standalone unit. One is superb video upconverting. Another is fast load times. The last is price (around $400us). I have reaserched and found that a good player for me, maybe the Samsung BD-P2500 as it has incorporated the REON video chip. The new line of Samsung players look nice, but they do not have the REON chip. As for netflix or wifi, I dont need either. Im looking for the best PQ/AQ in my particular price range. Are there any players that someone could recommend, besides the Samsung BD-P2500 that incorporates the things im looking for? Thanks in advance!

bferr is right. The Oppo BDP-83 is going to be the gold standard player. (especially in the 500 dollar and below pricerange) Especially for DVD upconversion. Now there is one player out there that is not getting any pub, but is a very solid player with fast load times and with very good upconversion which appears software based. It is the new JVC BD player the XV-BP1. There has been a couple people on AVS that have really put it through the paces. It has great DVD upconversion ( an especially good deinterlacer) very fast load times (right there with the Oppo and the LG and Samsung models) and excellent picture quality. The only negative thing about it is some don't like the bright blue lights on the front. Otherwise it is a solid player that offers all of the audio codecs as well. Not sure why it isn't getting more love. The best part is, it is priced between 200-250 dollars depending on where you get it.

From the reviews I've read, the Oppo has just as fast, if not, faster load times than the PS3. I know it's a little extra but it's top notch and hard to beat.

The LG BD390 is getting some good feedback from those who tried it. CNET says the best standalone player dollar for dollar on the market today and has really fast loading.

I have no experience with it but I'm really curious about it. Best Buy has it for $349 currently I believe.

Careful to not limit with fast load times though. The Pioneer 320 is a heck of a player from what I'm reading for BD and SD DVD playback.

I own the OPPO Digital 83 and it to me is the best player on the market unless you are willing to spend over $1000 +. The load times are incredibly fast, the up converting is impressive and one of the reasons I bought it. OPPO Digital makes some of the best up converting DVD players on the market and the 83 continues to demonstrate that. This player also has impressive blu ray specs, and plays every type of format such as SACD, DVDA, and all of the other high end audio, etc. formats. They sell direct and to me that is why no other brand is as good as other brands have to sell to middle men, etc. so by the time you see a player on a retail for $400 it really is a $2-300 player as far as the manufacturer is concerned.

I registered to be notified once its available. I guess I wasn't aware it wasn't available yet. Why do some believe it will have a 500 dollar price point?

The Oppo BDP-83 is hands down what you are looking for. I've had the Samsung BD-1200 with the REON card and one of the best upscalling reported until I got my OPPO BDP-83.

I have it now for almost a month and I am amzed everytime I use it. Incredible upconversion from DVD format, incredible picture, great menu's, plays it all. It amazes me to see TrueHD words on my receiver for sound processed by the OPPO player. I haven't even had the time to come online to coment until now.

Only thing I will add is to make it work with more video formats other than AVI. But I am getting greedy.... Other than that it plays all my MP3's, CD's, DVD's, all my BD, and most anything I connect to it through the USB port.

Simply amazing. The best money that I have spent in ages.

I cannot agree more. The OPPO is a terrific player: the player is fast; it renders a beautiful picture and glorious sound; it seems very reliable and well built; so far OPPO support is excellent, and the player is capable of playing almost every format. As a result I discovered how amazing DVD Audio and SACD sound. I never would have tried these formats because I only have room for one player. Highly recommended.

Not sure if that price will hold once it becomes public, but in the early adoption program, that is the price that they are selling it for. (link to site info below)

As many of you seem to know, the oppo BDP-83 is in the second round of its early adoption program, a process for the company to determine if the product is ready to be publicly released yet. Anyone here sign up- using one? I wonder what will change and/or stay the same? There are some good early adopter comments on the site. It appears that you can still sign up and perhaps be selected to buy the unit for US$499.

"2. COST AND WARRANTY
The price for a unit of BDP-83 player is US$499
."
