Default "The African Queen" may be coming from Paramount on Blu-ray

from digitalbits.com:

The studio confirmed that it does have the U.S. rights to The African Queen and that it is now actively working on restoring the title for DVD and possibly Blu-ray release. For a long period there were complications in getting the process underway due to the need to acquire the appropriate elements which Paramount did not have in North America but which did reside in the U.K. where the original production company, Romulus Films, is located (hence the availability of the film as a Region 2 release for some considerable time now). Paramount was not willing to commit to a specific release date as yet, but late 2009 or 2010 seems like a reasonable timeframe.

AWESOME.

Not only is it the only film on the original AFI 100 list that hasn't come to DVD yet, but it's a true classic. Humphrey Bogart and Katherine Hepburn in a John Huston (a true master) film that blends action adventure and romantic comedy like no other film.

"By the authority vested in me by Kaiser William II, I pronounce you man and wife. Proceed with the execution."

So soon?! It was just ten plus years ago when they released the VHS. I hate double dips!

This is fantastic news! The African Queen is such a great classic and I've been waiting for years for it to come out on DVD. I was getting to the stage of seriously considering taking in my beloved VHS copy to get it transferred on to DVD (I don't have a VHS anymore), but now with this news I'll wait for the BD!

If it means a properly restored film, it's worth the wait.

Great news!! I bought the UK DVD earlier this year (I have a player just for PAL discs, and it was this version or a Korean knock-off) and the PQ is the worst of any movie I have ever bought. I don't understand why this film has been so ignored - I will definitely buy it on blu!!!!
