Default Subtitle Positioning/Method for Blu-ray

How do you think studios should position subtitles on Blu-ray titles and using what method?

Do you think the consumer should be given the ability to select the subtitle positioning?

Do you think subtitles should be bitmap based or scalable/vector graphic based text subtitles, or do you think either of the two options should be selectable as options?

Which method do you think would look best on the Phillips '21:9' or '2.39:1' HDTV which has a resolution of 2560 x 1080, or other higher than 1920x1080 resolution displays which are likely to appear in future? Scalable or current bitmap based subtitles?

Do you think scalable text based subtitles provide other benefits over current bitmap based ones, for example in amount of disc space used?

"Consumers should be given the option to select the position of subtitles"

That way everyone gets what they want.

But this poll is different, and has more options, including asking whether consumers should be given the choice of subtitle position, and whether subtitles should be bitmap or scalable text based. None of which are options in the other poll.

The other poll only gives options "always in picture (not black bars)", "always half-in/half out of black bars", "don't mind either way", whereas this poll gives more options/choice. This poll is also about subtitling for all studios, while the other poll is only asking about SPE.

Default SUBTITLES - The Solution

I always use subtitles and buy only DVD/Blu-ray which includes this option.
Seems to me that there is a single solution to the placement problem -- make all subtitles in 3-D so that they float in front of the picture on screen.
This should avoid the white on white clash with a slight movement of the head to change the position of the subtitles over the picture, like those Magic Eye images in 3-D.
QED. Occam's razor rules!
