Default I was wondering

I have been reading alot of things in the plasmas and LCD and I can't seem to decide. I have everything exceopt for my TV to make my HT complet.

My room is 14 by 14 it will be black as hell also in there as my room will be in the basement, now I want a large TV screen (not a projector) what shuold I go with LCD or plasma and please try to be honest when replying, it's not because you have either one of them that you should think of that I need objective replies considering the room I have , the size that I want and the light that comes in to my room.

Edit: I have also asked in the plasma section

thanks in advance for your replies

If you can afford it get the KURO Plasma it is the best out there. IMHO! I have the 60"(you can see in my gallery) They will stop production on these bad boys soon. That is my 2 cents. Good luck and have fun! I also have a LCD in my basement. The KURO beats it hands down!

I have the new Panasonic TC-P50V10 and anyone that tells you that plasma displays still have problems with burn-in and IR is full of it.

I've had it for about three weeks and my eyes have worse image retention than the television does. Don't leave the house for the weekend with a blu-ray menu on and you won't have to worry about burn-in either.

I watched Watchmen on my TV and my friend's LG LCD and the picture on the plasma makes it look bad.

If you break it in properly you don't have to worry about the burn in problems. At all! Just don't play video games for over 45min in the first 100 hours and make sure you watch a variety of programing. After the first 100 hours are over you are in the clear!

Alos I would like to have something like 58" is there something out there that could be of interest for me. remember I have 3000$ of budget and I live in Canada

Plasma’s and LCD’s both have pro’s and con’s. I personally enjoy the life like vivid picture of an LCD.

Yes. The new models are a lot better when it comes to that problem. It seems like even jumping from the 2008 to 2009 models, there is a big difference when it comes to image retention.

I'm from Canada as well and the 50" V10 cost me a hair over $3000. This 58" Samsung costs about the same but I don't know very much about the TV.

It's going to be tough finding a 58" LCD with comparable quality for under $3000...

Plasmas naturally have better blacks, angles, no motion blur, but are a shade more fragile and heavier. But those pros get smaller and smaller every year compared to LCDs as models in both categories improve. Also plasmas you always have to have a little awareness when watching content with pillar or widescreen bars, channel logos, and HUDs, but its not a deal breaker and newer models arent as susceptible to temporary image retention or the more serious burn in of past models.

plasma's do get blacker blacks, which should get you the truest color pallet representation. Pioneers are the best. Second are the panasonics.

If you're spending around 3,000, you really can't go wrong.

SONY and SAMSUNG make the best LCDs.

If you can get a good deal on a Pioneer or Pioneer elite, do it. You won't regret it.

Image retention maybe, but with proper "break in" period, Burn-in should be non-existent

I have never had any IR on my Kuro's. What most fail to realize is plasma's phosphor is hot as hell when in use. You only have a problem if the IR does not disappear right away, which older plasmas did. I have a 2006 50" 60u Panny that will get IR but it goes away with-in seconds. The only more recent plasmas I have seen with actual burn-in are the Samsungs (not this years models). This is mainly due to Best Buy playing ESPN all frickin day, but the Kuro's and Pannys seem to deal with it way better.

I have never done the recomended "break-in" on any plasma I've bought, & have never had an issue.

My suggestion would be picking up a Pioneer 600M for around $3,000. You can now calibrate the monitor with ControlCal for the absolute best picture available from any TV. (Research more about this in the Pioneer thread or PM me)

It is 60 inches, so it is a great size. Typically most people always wish they went bigger, so try not to settle for a 52 inch if you don't have to. I also own a Samsung LCD and previously owned a Samsung plasma. I cannot stress enough how great a Pioneer TV is and that I would consider it vastly superior to any other TV I have encountered.

Honestly, this forum will provide you with many opinions but you should really demo and see what you like and base your purchase on that. I see you started 3 threads now on this ( LVD VS Plasma VS Projector). This forum has all the info you need on all three but it still comes down to what looks best to you. With that said, go buy a 1080P projector.

You are right about my 3 threads I'm at the final stage of finishing my room so I don't want to make a mistake, I want to be sure that I make the right decision, my main problem here is that I have a small budget of 3000$ canadian, in Canada is a bit more expensive to byu the same thing as you could here.

Good for you no IR, but Kuros (Pioneer) won't make them anymore you know that right. What is the 600M from Pioneer???
