Question Thanks and HDCP question

First, thank you all for the advice generated in my original newbie post:

https://forum.blu-ray.com/showthread...=1#post1981341
I am now the proud owner of a H&K AV 154, a Samsung BP-1600, and a set of Polk 6750 5.1 speakers. It is connected my Phillips 32PFL5332D. It sounds so much better than the old stereo I had, I am very pleased. I have run into an issue though. Playing blu-ray discs it was fine the first time for a bout three hours of playing. The next evening after about 30 minutes or so patches of green vertical lines started showing up. After restarting the blu-ray player it was okay for a few minutes and then they came back. I restarted the player again and the whole screen turned green. I decided to try different discs but the player quit loading them, it would sit there saying "Loading." I am not sure if the loading issue was related to the green issue.

Research at Samsung said the problem was probably because the TV is not HDCP compliant, and to use a component connection instead of HDMI. I looked at the manual for the TV bit it does not mention HDCP anywhere so I don't know. How can I find out? I bought it about1.5 years ago. Does this make sense and do you have any suggestions? Also, this morning I put DVD in and it worked just fine, but I only had a minute to play it.

Don't know about your tv being HDCP incompliant, but I would suggest buying a couple of new hdmi cables from monoprice.com just to make sure it's not a simple cable issue.

I bought one at monoprice, and the other one I already was using came from RadioShack. I don't have the patience to wait for mail order but I could go local and buy another one to test.

try connecting the Bluray player directly to the TV (skip the receiver), using both HDMI cables. If there is a problem with either of the cables, you would see the same result you get now.

If both cables work fine, then it may just be an issue with the Harmon Kardon?

...also try all the different HDMI inputs (TV and Reciever), maybe one is going bad?

USA Compliant

I just researched and discovered all my components are HDCP compliant. My research also indicates that HDCP issues usually result in errors, not video display weirdness. I am going to flash the TV's firmware and buy an additional HDMI cable. Any other suggestions appreciated.

Angry Bad Player

In the end it turns out the samsung is bad. Wouldn't even work through composite hooked directly to TV. It started freezing up also. I called samsung expecting they would exchange it. Nope. I have ship it to New Jeresey to be repaired. Looks like a good three weeks to get it back. Talk about disappointed. Certainly will not buy samsung again.

Thanks for your assistance.

Thumbs up Amazon

I have never returned anything to Amazon before and I didn't realize they had such a great return policy. So I am very happy to reprot they are processing the return. Now I am researching what to get to replace it. The Samsung gets the best reviews for players in that price range, but I hesitate to get another one. Looking at Phillips and Panasonic.

Go with Panasonic. I haven't had any issues with my player, and they are always quick to add firmware updates if needed.

Panasonic it is. Hopefully Vieracast will keep adding content, although it is certainly not the most important feature.
Thanks
