Original Version vs. Greatest Hits? - Blu-ray Forum

I've seen many people when trading games specifiy they don't want Greatest Hits versions.

What's the big deal about Greatest Hits versions? Is it the packaging, or is the game different?

Just wondering.... I just got the Burnout Paradise Greatest Hits version today. Looks sweet in the red case.

Collectors enjoy having original printings with the original cases. If all you care about is playability, it doesn't matter, but I've seen an original printing of Final Fantasy VII go for $150.00. Thats about it.

Basically that's the reason...the red case won't match with the clear cases on the shelf.

I have the Greatest Hits version of Ninja Gaiden Sigma and i could care less what it looks like as long as i can enjoy the game.

Sometimes...and this is extremely rare...the Greatest Hits version has something special. Be it a bug fix or something more (Devil May Cry 3 actually had a bunch of new stuff added).

That never really bothered me. It'd be nice if they all matched, but if it doesn't, it doesn't drive me into OCD land.

The DMC3 rerelease Special Edition was promoted as an upgraded version with easier difficulty level and extra stuff. Not just a budget Greatest Hits rebranding.

I always wondered why dont they just put a red sticker on it that can be peeled off that says greatest hits...and just keep the case the same. The red case isnt that cool to me..same with the xbox 360 greatest hits case..looks horrible.

Agreed. Although I'd like to get a bunch of green blu-ray cases (like The Incredible Hulk) for all of my 360 games. The cost just isn't worth it though.

I never got the Devil May Cry 3 Greatest Hits but I did double dip on Budokai 3. The Greatest Hits version came packed with Japanese exclusives. I don't mind the red tab mixing in with the black. Hell, even my PS3 games aren't uniform because I have the DMC4 and RE5 SteelBook. I do like them all to match, but special editions are exceptions.

Yeah but when you can find the original one in store when a GH is out, its the same price... so I prefer the orginal for the package but not enough to paid more on Ebay for it.

They actually did this all around me ... but all reorders came with red case ...

I used to be anal about this kind of thing, but I have relzxed a bit somewhat. Being able to play a great game is really all that matters to me now, not the case it comes in.

In Europe none of our game spines are consistent because we've got plain text spines, centered text spines (Assassin's Creed), ALL CAPS SPINES, and then the full artwork spines like North American releases.

So having all spines different like North America is actually the most consistent appearance. Consistently different.

same here, i dont own any greatest hits editions, but if i want a game, ill get it, if i can choose the case, ill just get the regular one, but i really dont care either way

Yup...I got the original Burnout case for the same price as the greatest hits case. I like my cases to match, unless it's an über cool special edition or something.

Doesn't always work that way - I know a bunch of store that just don't order the new one and continue trying to charge original price on the old ones. Within the last week I've seen at least one chain store (I think it was a Walmart) where they still had MGS4 for 45 or something.
