Default The Best of Cinerama coming 11/22

From the Amazon website:

Quote:
The Best of Cinerama is comprised of all the greatest thrills of Cinerama, from the breathtaking roller coaster ride to the visit to La Scala, Milan, for Aida; from the hurtling bobsled run, to the stirring dances of the African Watusis. Made up of over 20 such exciting highlights, the film is not only an historic compilation, but also a stand-alone thrill-a-minute experience.

The adventure begins with the Sabre jet precision flying team from Search For Paradise, and then whirls back to the iconic roller coaster sequence from This is Cinerama! newly restored for this release. From there, the three-panel journey goes global, showcasing some of the rich and exotic locales of Cinerama Holiday and Seven Wonders of the World. There s the Marian Year Celebration at St. Peter s Square in Rome, featuring the first commercial motion-picture footage of Pope Pius XII. There s the boat trip down the Ganges River at Benares. There are visits to Paris, Vienna, Athens, India, Brazil, Japan, Africa, Israel, and New Orleans, all in one spectacular Cinerama presentation. Flicker Alley and Cinerama Inc. are proud to present The Best of Cinerama in the Smilebox® Curved Screen Simulation. The film has been digitally remastered from original camera negatives, and includes an all-new restoration of scenes from This is Cinerama! This edition celebrates a decade of Cinerama filmmaking, and over five years of bringing those treasures back to life on Blu-ray and DVD for future Cinerama audiences to enjoy!

Bonus Materials Include:
- Feature Length Audio Commentary: With Cinerama historian David Coles
- Shellarama (1965): Shot in Super-Technirama and released on 70mm, this Shell-produced short follows the journey of Shell oil from raw source to refined fuel

I've purchased all of the Smilebox Cinerama releases. With that in mind, is there anything in the BEST OF CINERAMA that I haven't already seen?

Dave Strohmaier had the following to say at HTF last August on some of the differences between "Best of" and "This is Cinerama":

Quote:
The Best of Cinerama was Merian C. Cooper’s last film work. We located the 7-channel sound of this title in Australia last year and also found a detailed continuity of the film in the old Cinerama files. Due to all of the past few years Cinerama restorations I have now been able to reconstruct this title exactly as Cooper and the editors had constructed it. All the original travelogue sound efx. and music score was used but Lowell Thomas was brought in to record new narration for this1963 release
and

Quote:
It is my understanding that "Best Of Cinerama" will come out sometime in the spring with Flicker Alley. The major hold up was scanning the entire original 6 perf. camera negatives of "This Is Cinerama" at Fotokem. We did this so that when assembling the final version for "Best Of" all the images from "This Is Cinerama" that appear would be of the same quality to the other shows. Thus we could eliminate the old 65mm telecine images from 4 years ago. Just so you know there are no plans at this point to re issue this new version of "This Is Cinerama" on blu ray. That may come some day but we now have a DCP of this new version so we can show it at the Danish Film Institute this October as well as any future theatrical screenings that may come along. “Best Of Cinerama” will have its first premiere at this October's Widescreen Weekend Festival at the British National Media Museum in Bradford. I had noticed that the color on the “This Is Cinerama” 0-negs had faded quite a bit since last working with it 7 years ago. However we were able to get pretty decent color back in although it is subtler that the 65mm version that originated from a 1960 Technicolor print done on an optical printer in the early 1970s. I can say that the join lines are quite a bit better now than before an a lot more detail and sharpness is very evident.
There is also this article on the resto.

WOW! This is the best looking Cinerama disc to date. And the Shellerama short is fantastic! Even if you already have all the other Cinerama discs, you should get this one too. Great stuff!

did a quick look see this afternoon - was very impressed.

the 'Battleship Iowa Arrives in San Pedro' is so odd, but it's a nice addition.

Got a shopping noticed yesterday, but I had honestly forgotten about this. The delay between when FA announces titles and actually releases them seems longer than anyone else.

Glad to see a review up.

Would like to mention that not mentioned in the review under the video quality section is that the "This is Cinerama" clips in "Best of" are from a new restoration and are higher quality than the "This is" blu-ray.

Also, 4 out of 5 stars on special features? Are you kidding? Bonus short films, a slew of other things, what else do they want? The features on this pack are outstanding!
