Anybody know much about these displays? How would it compare to, say, the 65PZ850?

This is from the professional line. The Premiere series are the newer versions I believe, but this model is a very good set. I believe there is an owner's thread over on avsforum. Overall this set is better than the PZ850, but not as good as the Premiere or this year's consumer sets...well at least in regards to black level. The Premiere and the V10 have deeper blacks but that model has slightly deeper blacks than the PZ850. Color accuracy is probably better than the current consumer Panny's though. Try looking around avsforum for more info.

the premiere is quite impressive, but it's also almost $3000 more... $10,000 is a lot to pay for a TV haha

basically my roommate and i are looking for a plasma to replace his now 3 year old panasonic projector with, since the HT room isn't big enough to do anything beyond 70" anyways and a 65 inch plasma would surely out-do any projector in that price range (if the extra 5 inches arent a huge factor)

Yeah, it is very expensive. I think there are a couple of ways you can go. You can get the best set for a reasonable price which would be the 65" PZ850. It can be had HERE for $3695 shipped. This is an excellent set that I've drooled over in Best Buy on occasion. Of course TH-65PF11UK is better and it can be had HERE for just over $4500.

I don't know how much of a hurry you're in, but Ecost already has the Panasonic 65" S1 priced on their site HERE for $2709.99 and I believe that it gets released sometime next month. That is a tremendous value and black level will be better than the other two sets.

Another option that can be had right now is THIS 63" Samsung for $2715.55. Black level is about the same as the PZ850 and maybe even slightly better from what I've read over on avsforum. I've seen it in person and its pretty impressive. Color accuracy is also very good.

Of course the best solution is to drop down to 60" and get THIS Kuro for $3500 shipped instead. Its still a very big set and it will give you the best picture. I've seen a 60" Kuro Elite(6020FD is damn close) right above a 65" PZ850 and believe me when I say that the extra 5" on the Panny didn't make up for superb picture of the Kuro. I could easily live with the Panny, but I'd much rather live with the Kuro at the same price even if its smaller.
