Canada Good Deal from DVD Planet - Tonight Only

I have been unable to find decent prices on my wishlist items, and importing from the US can be expensive.

Amazon.com has ridiculous policies that make shipments pointless for Canadians.

Deep Discount isn't as bad but they didn't have what I wanted at the right price.

I tried their sister site, DVD Planet.

Disney titles work out to just over $20 which is almost impossible in Canada.

Take a look tonight if you want something. The Deep Discount 25% off sale ends tonight so this probably will too.

Use code COUPONCABIN for $5 off $50.

That stacks with 25OFFSALE for 25% off the entire order.

I just placed this order:

Eyes Wide Shut $9.66
True Romance $15.42
Children of Men $15.95
Field of Dreams $15.95
Serenity $17.07
Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy $19.92
Dr. Strangelove $22.20
Touch of Frost - Season 14 (DVD) $18.61

Total shipping by air mail to Canada: $11.50

Total cost: $146.28 US or around $157.54 CAD

If I order the same items from Amazon.ca it comes to $231.24 inc. tax.

Even if I get hit with duty I'll save $50.

Ditto. I've rarely paid over $15 per movie (plus ship/tax), and I've bought both old and new titles, mostly through Columbia House.

However, having looked at several different websites, it definitely appears that those prices are among the best, if not the best, for many of those titles.

inetvideo.com did not have a single one of these titles on Blu-ray...

Dr. Strangelove is over $30 everywhere in Canada. I am sure it will eventually drop.

I know that Serenity was $12.99 at SiG once, but I want to see it after just seeing all of Firefly.

A Touch of Frost came out last week and would have been $31.51 inc. tax in the Best Buy 10% off sale.

For some reason, Hitchhiker's Guide has always been around $30 here too.

I recently got an Amazon.com GC from a rewards program (My Points) so I had to use it.

Here is the order that I eventually placed:

2001: A Space Odyssey $10.49
Ghostbusters $8.99 (now $7.99)
Total $19.48

Shipping and handling $10.97 (cheapest option)

Import fees deposit $3.06 (you never have to pay more and they say they will refund the difference if it is less, but I have no experience with this)

Total $33.51.

Converted to CAD, approximately $35.77

So they are asking around $15 CAD to ship two movies across the border.

The total price of $35.77 is similar to ordering two $13.99 movies from CH Canada when you add tax and shipping, but bear in mind that the two movies I chose were extremely cheap in the first place.

It has to be an incredible price to justify ordering from Amazon.com unless you have a friend in the US that will ship it to you.

Amazon UK is far superior. For instance, The Bourne Trilogy is $57 CAD shipped at the moment. You run the risk of import duty but it's pretty random.

No, it's US addresses only.

Amazon Marketplace won't ship here either.

I can't see a way around their shipping prices unless you ship to a friend in the US and get them to forward it to you declaring it as a gift for customs purposes.

I am very happy with the prices I got last night at DVD Planet. I have been watching those items for a while and couldn't see prices anywhere near what I was finally able to get.

I'm with you on this one Steve, I ordered 6 movies from deep discount during the sale. For example I got Zodiac for $16.50 including taxes, exchange rate and shipping which was wicked!

Fantastic movie that I will watch many times. The quality of the presentation is up there with the best too.

I picked it up for $19.99 at E-Outlet Canada a couple of months ago.

not saying that the deal you got was bad at all.. i guess its just not as low prices as we are use to seeing here. (but i suppose its cuz their new release/ specific titles that are just generally expensive) that sucks that amazon.com only shipping to US addresses (given how close we are in canada) sometimes i feel we are excluded from things that we could so easily be included in. oh well

Yep. If Deep Discount can ship at a reasonable price, and DVD Planet can ship at $4.75 + 75c per disc, Amazon could do it too.

Remember that the prices I got are what I paid. No tax to add. Buying a $13.99 title at CH Canada comes to $18 with tax and shipping.

Shame the deal is dead (not that I have checked).

I put the same items into my cart at Amazon.com and it came to just under $203 US.

The deal is dead. The title of the post probably should have had the date on it, but it was good for two weeks.

As for DDD, the shipping there is much worse than it used to be. Before, it was $5.95 Canadian for whatever you ordered, not they have a tiered system that to me is not far off how bad the Amazon.com shipping rates are.
