Default T2 ROTF Audio Poll

So lots of peeps are having probs with the audio in T2 ROTF Imax version. I am wondering. How many people are bitstreaming, how many people are sending PCM, how many fall into the none of the above?

I have a PS3 and am sending PCM to my Onkyo 605 and am having no problems!

I also agree that for some scenes the dialogue from the real people is a little low, but it's nothing that really makes or breaks the audio for me. The sound of the first transformation of the decepticon in Shanghai went down my spine. Really cool demo disc.

The only issue I had was the dialogue being somewhat low. But it wasn't low to the point of not making out what the people were saying. Plus it's a Paramount title and seems to be dialnormed (which isn't a problem, just one of the reasons people are saying the track is lower).

Decoding internally in Sony BDP S550, 5.1 analog connection to Parasound Halo C2. Standard ed is simply amazing, the Imax version is in the mail, hoping there are no sound problems here.

I bitstream, and I have to admit that a lot of thing that I thought should have been loud seemed weak or soft. For the most part, the audio was fantastic, the surround was awesome, but some crashes came off more like splashes... pretty weak. If the non-IMAX versions don't have this issue, I may return the one I have and get that instead, unless word comes out about a replacement program. I enjoyed the few IMAX scenes there were, but the audio issue were noticeable to me and even to my wife, who is not as picky or discerning as I am. I was kind of disappointed. Since the movie was just okay, I was really needing perfection from the audio to keep me into the experience.

Now I am starting to wonder if there's not some defective copies out there. At no point did I think the sound effects were weak. The bass was powerful and packed tons of punch. Again, the only thing I noticed was that it's dialnormed and the dialogue was slightly low.

I am curious, to the people saying it sounds weak, have you ever used DRC? Does it sound kind of close to what that sounds like?

I read somewhere else that the fact that the effects are so loud that when the people talk it appears lower than normal. That makes sense since I had my setup set at my normal listening volume for night time viewing and had no issues with dialog.

BTW, bitstreaming from an Oppo BDP-83 to a Denon 3808ci. Other specs in my sig.

Official www.blu-ray.com review of IMAX version confirms this:

Please note: it does appear that the soundtrack accompanying this IMAX version does lack the same amount of power and heft as that found on the standard release. This is still an amazing soundtrack in every regard, but the low end isn't quite as powerful and the sound effects perhaps not quite as loud. Two scenes were sampled several times in succession: the opening studio logo sequence and the forest battle in chapter nine. The IMAX version's DTS-HD MA 5.1 soundtrack is still loud, aggressive, crystal-clear, and makes excellent use of the low end and the surround channels, but it packs just a bit less punch when compared to the standard 2.39:1 release and at the same reference volume level and utilizing the same settings on the same Blu-ray playback device.

If people had the non slim ps3 will will PCM and the rest blu-ray player will just bit stream.

PCM willl require turn on higher volume for the same sound as bit stream.

I read that. The reviewer says it's the definitive version to own because of the PQ, but then turns around and says the AQ is lacking by comparison. Um...so PQ makes it the best version, even though the AQ is significantly and noticably lesser??? Sorry, but AQ is every bit as important (IMHO) if not MORE important than the PQ. I haven't opened my copy and played it yet, but right now I am seriously debating returning it to get the "standard" version. Then again, if all it is...

...is Dial Norm and can be corrected by turning up the volume...? Can anyone elaborate / confirm whether the differences people are experiencing are the result of lower volume and not an inferior mix?

Is it possible that the audio for the Walmart edition has a lower bitrate to compensate for the increased bitrate for Imax video scenes therefore resulting in a lower overall volume?
