BD-R will support three recording modes:

Sequential Recording Mode (SRM):
A BD-R in SRM mode may be recorded in multiple sessions.

Sequential Recording Mode with Pseudo-Overwrite (SRM+POW):
A BD-R in SRM+POW mode may be recorded in multiple sessions, and pseudo-overwrite is used to make the write-once media behave like rewriteable media (overwriting of a recorded cluster is allowed).

Random Recording Mode (RRM):
A BD-R in RRM mode allows data to be randomly written at every un-recorded cluster. This mode can not be combined with pseudo-overwrite.

As for packet writing, Nero has already stated that their InCD software supports packet-writing using "Blu-ray Disc" features, so I'm guessing it should be defined.

20 times wont be enough even if you're using it for simple backups.
for intensive use with packet-writing even the standard cd/dvd figure that you quoted seems too low. i guess this is why the dvd-ram format still has some fans with its ten times higher rewrite cycles
