Default Trying to understand HD audio and what receiver to buy!

Ok, here goes!

I am new to the world of HD audio, and want to make sure that I am going to be making the right purchase. I have a HTPC, lite on blu-ray drive, about to purchase a xonar hdav 1.3 slim HDMI audio card. From what I am able to understand, so long as my audio card decodes the truehd or dts-hd and sends it uncompressed through the HDMI cable, I do not need a receiver that has it's own HD decoders, as the signal is already being sent in hd or hd master to it, so all it really needs to do is have Hdmi 1.3 audio on it, and a 7.1 channel setup?

I am sorry if this has already been answered, I have been bombarded with so much information that I am just trying to be sure I have it all sorted out properly, and that I am making the proper purchase to start enjoying my HD home theater!
