Default 1st Blu-ray disc up for preorder @ Amazon (March 14 release)

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00...v=glance&n=130

Funny that the HD DVD version comes out the very same day. Found this info @ AVS.

I'm guessing you mean that it won't help HD-DVD to survive... I agree totally.

It most definitely will help Blu-Ray to obliterate HD-DVD though when people see media priced the same and then realize they already have a Blu-Ray player at home in their PS3.

LoL, if disc pricing will be the same, it'll be up to the ammount and price of the equipment. There Blu-ray has an advantage, since it has more manufacturers backing the technology.

It will be more complex than that - How much are you prepared to pay for extra features, like recordable. Also how about buying a player that doesn't have as many titles, then again it will save money as a double bonus, not as many disks to buy.

There is no technical reason why the drives shouldn't cost the same. The hardware is basically the same except for the shape of a small lens, however while blu ray works co-operativly together there can be big savings in ecconomy of scale.

Hardware pricing is where a lot of questions remain. Sony can afford to sell their PS3s at a loss knowing that they'll recoup their costs with licensing fees from all PS3 games made. They also have a big movie studio to help them sell millions of BD movies to recover costs of selling their hardware for a loss if they so choose. Most of the other electronic companies in the BDA do not have this advantage. For them selling their hardware at a loss would be idiotic and suicidal. So we truly have to hope that BD players, recorders, and drives can be produced for similar costs as compared to HD DVD. Otherwise there's a glimmer of hope for HD DVD and I believe that's what they are still in the game. They still see a chance to win it all.

Was Chronos really the first Blu-ray available for Amazon pre-order?

It's funny they actually had to state this back then "Note: This disc is only playable on a Blu-ray DVD player" (I'm assuming the description never changed over the years)

Why bump a thread that hasn't been written in since 2006?

At least it was an amusing flashback. People excited about Chronos for $25. Flash forward to today where you can find people saying they wouldn't want to pay more than $20 for a TV show like Andy Griffith

Wonder why Gorkab hasn't been active since 2011. Were too many people rubbing it in still?
