Default Never seen LOST... Should I begin now?

Yes, I know, I must be the only person in the whole Western world that hasn't seen a single minute of that TV phenomenon. I know it's supposed to be the mutt's nuts, but I also hate it when the writers of a series make fun of the viewers, like setting up mysteries they never solve, and subplots left in the air, or given convenient deus ex machina sollutions (which is why I didn't like series like Weeds or Prison Break as much as I could have).

But I'm tempted... Or maybe my time would be better spent watching other things (I have Mad Men and Band of Brothers still sitting on my shelf, and True Blood on its way).

Any opinions?

Be prepared to get very frustrated! I really enjoyed the first few seasons.. Then I just thought it got a bit ridiculous. The story got very confusing - seemed like the writers didn’t even know what was going on for a while! I missed a good bit of the last season, so will have to catch up.

I would recommend it though, especially now that they are on blu.

Haven't seen season 5, but IMO, things do get explained in satisfactory fashion all along the way. Except not the big important mysteries which I'm guessing are kept for the end.

Get it, it is the best TV show I know of anyway.

Give it a go, but do start at the very beginning or you will be so Lost. (No pun intended). Mysteries are solved, maybe not in an episode, but within a season or two.

If you do decide to watch it get the first 4 seasons at one time. More than likely you'll have to re-watch season 3 or 4 because as stated before, it gets pretty damn crazy.

Amazing show though. Season 1 and 2 were probably the best of any show I've ever watched. It pulls you in very fast.

Grubert, I've never actually watched this show either, other than catching a minute of it a few years back. It was a guy having a weird nightmare about something in the jungle coming to get him, but he wasn't sure if it was a dream or real.....anyways it was an extremely nonsensical scene (at least for me, since I was in the dark on the whole story) so it kinda turned me off of seeing it.

Seeing commercials here and there made it seem interesting, so now that they're on blu, I can start getting them from Netflix.

But if I can recommend any show, it's Band of Brothers. It's such an amazing series, and even better if you have a nice sound system!

Start from the beginning, rent season one on BD and don't look back. Seriously, its the best TV show of the last 10 years.

Until two weeks ago, I was in the same boat: never saw a minute of LOST and didn't really buy into the hype.

Now I have bought the first 4 seasons and started watching the first one (I'm only on disc 2 so far) but I really like what I've seen up to now. Visually and orally, the production is stunning on Blu-ray, even better than some catalog movie titles on Blu. The writing is also very smart and well-paced. So far, there was one plot twist I guessed in advance but for all the others, the writers succeeded to take me aback.

From one sceptic to another, I'd like to strongly recommend this series. It looks like it'll be a worthwile series.

I've also ordered Dollhouse and still on the fence whether or not to get TrueBlood. Band of Brothers is also on my 'might but it one day' list but have yet to pull the trigger.

I could go either way...

The Wife and I rented the first season about a year or two ago, we buzzed through the first season in record time {about a week and a half} but then we rented the first disk of the second season when it came out, and we honestly couldn't make it through the entire disk.

From what I've heard it gets worse before it gets better.

like someone said, the show can be very frustrating though... you dont really get a lot of closure on things... i expect everything to be tied up by the end though

Agree 1000%. You can listen to those who have not watched every episode and say it got bad or went downhill, or you can listen to those who have watched every episode and think the show is simply amazing. Your choice.

I guess what helped me was going beyond the actual episodes to learn about the theories and connections that I did not originally pick-up on. In doing that, it made me have a complateley different outlook on the show because I had a much better understanding of what was going on and why. I can see why some are turned-off because a lot is thrown at the audience in just about every episode, and it takes some time to digest and try to make sense of it all. Once you do, you will be hooked.

My two cents.

Edit: Definitely watch BoB first. Words can't describe that series.

I just started watching it 2 weeks ago. We are 2 episodes into season 2.

It is really good so far. It can be confusing and I am really glad that I didn't watch it when it aired. It would be impossible to keep it all straight one week to another (or one season to another). But watching little marathons, it all makes sense.

I understand season 3 gets really confusing (again, hoping that watching it all at once will help) since the writers really had no idea how long they were gonna have to stretch things out, but then they decided to have only 16 episodes per season and an ending at the end of season 6. I understand this helped to get things back on track.

So I have S1-S4 now. S5 is coming in December and will likely watch the weekly episodes in January to finish it off. So now is a good time to get into it.

It is a phenominal series.

But, before you do, you MUST WATCH BAND OF BROTHERS!!!! BOB is the best television I have ever seen. It is beautiful, terrifying, touching, incredibly filmed, and stunning on blu....

I think a lot of people did not like the whole "hatch numbers" thing, it put people off and focused on the same thing for too long.

A lot of people gave up after that which was a shame because it gets so good just after those episodes!

I love the show but it will be hard to follow for a novice or casual viewer. I have seen every show and it still makes for confusion. IMO, they introduce too many character storys and leave you hanging on many. Many things never get explained, even stuff from the first season - like polar bears on the island. The writers have created a mess and probably don't know how to correct or end things.

www.hulu.com has all the episodes.

I'm waiting for the entire series to wrap up and end. People hated the last episode of the X-Files, people hated the conclusion of The Sopranos...I' m not going to invest the time and capital into the series until I read they writers actually knew what they were doing the entire run and weren't just pissing in the wind (like The X-Files). I've never seen an episode of LOST and I won't until the series is over and people report the whole thing wasn't just the dream of a polar bear or some other crazy nonsense.
